The business supports both tradespeople and the DIY market with an extensive product range, including building materials, plant and tool hire, power tools, doors, windows, kitchens, bathrooms, plumbing and heating supplies, and bespoke manufactured lintels and roof trusses. Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site Salesperson role based in Irthlingborough. The Salesperson will engage directly with customers in the branch, providing product advice, quotations, and solutions that meet the needs of both trade and DIY customers.

  • Serving customers at the counter and over the phone
  • Processing orders and payments
  • Following up on leads
  • Supporting the wider team to achieve sales targets
  • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of building materials and related products
  • Ensuring merchandising and stock displays are presentable
  • Collaborating with colleagues in logistics and operations to deliver excellent service

The Salesperson will contribute to a safe, inclusive, and customer-focused work environment.

Qualifications

  • Strong customer service and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and understand customer needs.
  • Sales and negotiation abilities, including experience with upselling, cross-selling, and meeting or exceeding targets.
  • Basic product knowledge or willingness to learn about building materials, tools, and related supplies.
  • Competence in using point-of-sale systems, handling cash and card payments, and managing orders accurately.
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail to manage quotes, follow-ups, and branch documentation effectively.
  • Collaborative mindset and reliability, with the ability to work as part of a diverse team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Previous experience in retail, trade counter, or building materials sales is beneficial but not essential.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and safely handle products in line with health and safety guidelines.
  • Willingness to undertake training and develop knowledge of Huws Gray Group products and systems.
