The Brand
Larry King Salons are unintimidating yet luxury salons based in Marylebone, South Kensington and Notting Hill. Established 10 years ago, founders Larry and Laura have always set out for the salons to be different in their ways of operating and positioned as a high-end hospitality hotspot. We are focused on being a collaborative and united team - willing to try new things and continue to take hairdressing to another level.
The Role
The Salon Manager is responsible for the day-to-day running of the salon as well as being the gap between directors and employees - leading the team, upholding the client experience, and keeping the salon safe and well-presented. The role blends hands-on people management with good administrative and commercial judgement, ensuring the salon consistently reflects Larry King's standards of service and presentation.
Key Responsibilities

Client Management
- Oversee the client journey delivered by the team, pushing staff to elevate service quality while keeping delivery consistent across the salons.
- Drive product and treatment selling and upselling, acting as a retail ambassador and drawing on potential previous retail experience to support the team.
- Ensure every client journey ends with a happy client, a rebooking conversation and a booked next appointment.
- Manage complaints and redo requests professionally and promptly; escalate any matter requiring a formal complaint or refund to the Operations/Finance Manager.

Team Management
- Manage holiday requests and scheduling while maintaining appropriate levels of staff.
- Run monthly salon & reception meetings with the full team and weekly meetings with the juniors
- Conduct interviews and screen CVs with all prospective new team members.
- Handle general team requests and day-to-day assistance.
- Organise team nights, drinks and demonstrations to maintain strong morale.

Google & Computer Competency
- Manage Google Calendar scheduling for manager-to-manager coordination.
- Use Gmail to write clear, professional emails, without relying wholly on AI.
- Use Google Sheets for payroll, complaints tracking and rota management.
- Log all HR activity accurately on the Bright HR system.
- Use Google Docs and Google Drive for day-to-day documentation and record-keeping.

Attendance
- Keep the team on time and punctual.
- Ensure sickness and lateness are logged correctly on BrightHR for assistants and seniors.
- Hold return-to-work meetings following any period of sickness absence.
- Manage disciplinary matters relating to attendance and lateness

HR Management
- Trained in HR and Health and Safety.
- Conduct monthly probation reviews and probation-end reviews with staff members.
- Hold probation extension meetings where necessary.
- Manage disciplinary matters relating to conduct.
- Lead formal warning meetings and grievances - ensuring compliance with the most up to date regulations.
- Deliver first-day inductions for all new starters including health and safety.
- Provide full and accurate Payroll information every month
- Carry out right-to-work document checks for all new starters.
- Schedule and run fire drills on a six-monthly basis as well as emergency lighting tests.
- Liaise with the Operations and Finance Manager, who issues offer letters once interviews are complete.

Maintenance & Cleaning
- Oversee general maintenance and repairs for the salon with contractors as needed.
- Ensure the salon is clean, tidy and consistently presented at the highest expectation.
- Ensure all music, branding and visually merchandised areas are nothing short of perfect.
- Liaise with Cleaning contractors on schedules and issues.
- Keep the salon decluttered and well-organised.
- Having attention to detail and making sure the space looks and feels luxurious.

New Ideas & Continuous Improvement
- Proactively bring forward new ideas on customer service, drawing on previous experience to implement positive change within the salon whilst respecting what was has been built for the past 10 years.
- There may be jobs that arise that aren’t listed above, but being proactive, responsible and taking ownership would be necessary.
Person Specification
Experience
- Extensive management experience within a salon, hospitality or retail environment.
- At least 5 year’s experience or training with HR processes such as inductions, probation reviews, payroll and HR administration.
Skills & Attributes
- Strong and confident leader but still a calm communicator, comfortable managing sensitive conversations with all.
- Strong organisational skills, able to juggle people management, admin and facilities.
- Competent with Google Workspace (Calendar, Gmail, Sheets, Docs, Drive).
- Commercially minded while being proactive and solutions-focused, efficient with problem solving and raising new ideas.
- Being a natural leader who fosters team morale and consistency of standards
- Holding the utmost discretion across all areas of the business.
