Sanctions Compliance Officer (6-Month Contract) - London (Hybrid)

About the Opportunity

We are recruiting on behalf of a leading global financial institution for an experienced Sanctions Compliance Officer to join its UK Financial Crime Compliance team on a 6-month contract. This is an excellent opportunity for a sanctions specialist with strong experience within Corporate & Investment Banking to play a key role in supporting the firm's UK sanctions programme. You will work closely with Financial Crime Compliance, Front Office, and other business stakeholders to ensure compliance with UK sanctions legislation, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the UK Sanctions Programme Lead with day-to-day sanctions advisory activities.
  • Review and provide guidance on sanctions-related transactions and escalations.
  • Support the implementation and maintenance of UK sanctions policies and procedures.
  • Conduct sanctions screening reviews for clients and transactions.
  • Investigate, adjudicate, and disposition sanctions alerts and potential sanctions hits.
  • Support sanctions risk assessments across the business.
  • Maintain sanctions governance, reporting, and management information.
  • Monitor changes in UK sanctions legislation, regulatory requirements, and industry guidance.
  • Deliver sanctions compliance training to business stakeholders.
  • Manage sanctions-related queries, mailbox activities, and administrative responsibilities.
  • Work closely with first-line and second-line defence teams to strengthen the firm's sanctions framework.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience as a Sanctions Compliance Officer, Sanctions Analyst, or Financial Crime Compliance professional within a Banking or Financial Services environment.
  • Strong knowledge of UK Sanctions Regulations, including OFSI, OTSI, and FCA expectations.
  • Experience investigating sanctions alerts and dispositioning sanctions screening hits.
  • Strong understanding of sanctions screening systems and sanctions list management.
  • Experience conducting sanctions risk assessments.
  • Experience developing or delivering sanctions compliance training.
  • Excellent understanding of Corporate & Investment Banking products and financial crime risks.
  • Strong analytical, investigative, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced regulatory environment.
