SAP Basis Specialist
Multiple UK locations (Warrington, Garston, Cardiff, Southampton, London and others)
Hybrid – 3 days per week on site
Up to £70,000 + benefits

WRK digital is partnered with a major UK infrastructure and logistics operator to appoint an SAP Basis Specialist to own the technical health of their SAP landscape.
This is the person the estate depends on. You'll own stability, performance and security across the SAP environments and HANA databases - designing for high availability, running upgrades and refreshes, tuning performance, and being the technical authority when something breaks and nobody else knows why. It spans both on-premise and cloud, and reports to the Business Solutions Lead.
It's a run-the-estate role rather than a programme role. The landscape is largely business-as-usual today, with a significant piece of work expected in around twelve months — so you'd have time to get properly under the bonnet before the pace picks up, rather than inheriting a crisis on day one.

What you'll be doing
- Architecting, implementing and supporting highly available SAP solutions across on-premise and cloud environments
- Owning HANA administration - performance, reliability, tuning and optimisation at scale
- Coordinating installations, upgrades, patching and maintenance across the landscape
- Designing and testing high availability and disaster recovery configurations, and running system refreshes
- Enforcing security protocols and compliance standards across the estate
- Troubleshooting connectivity, web services and the SAP issues that arrive without a clear owner
- Providing technical leadership, training and knowledge transfer to colleagues across IT and the business
- Working alongside project managers, operations teams and external service providers
What we're looking for
- Substantial SAP Basis administration experience, including S/4HANA - around five years or more
- Strong HANA administration experience in its own right, not just Basis with a HANA database underneath it
- A track record of performance tuning and troubleshooting large-scale SAP systems
- Real experience of high availability and disaster recovery design - not just following someone else's runbook
- The ability to explain technical constraints clearly to people who aren't technical, and to say no when going live isn't safe. This matters here more than the job description suggests
- Involvement in SAP implementations, upgrades or migrations
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS) and DevOps practices
- S/4HANA experience is important. If your depth is ECC-based and you've since moved into S/4HANA, we'd still like to hear from you
- Scripting and exposure to SAP BTP are welcome, but not expected across the board

Location and working pattern
Three days a week on site, and you can be based at any of a number of UK locations - Warrington, Garston, Cardiff, Southampton and London among them. There are twenty-one sites nationally, so it's worth asking even if your nearest isn't listed. Everything else is flexible around your nearest site.
