SAP Developer
Location: Hybrid (3x a week in Essex) with occasional travel
Salary: Competitive + Bonus + Excellent Benefits
Copello is recruiting for an experienced SAP Developer to join a leading organisation operating within a highly regulated engineering and manufacturing environment. This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established Digital Technology team responsible for delivering and supporting enterprise-wide business applications that enable critical operational and manufacturing functions. The role offers a mix of development, support, business analysis, and system enhancement, with the flexibility of remote or hybrid working and occasional travel to UK sites.
The Role
As an SAP Developer, you will support the full application lifecycle of SAP solutions, delivering enhancements, resolving issues, and developing new functionality to meet evolving business requirements. Working closely with technical teams, business stakeholders, and third-party suppliers, you'll play a key role in maintaining and improving critical ERP systems while ensuring they remain secure, reliable, and aligned with business needs. This position offers exposure to a wide range of SAP development activities, from business analysis and ABAP programming through to testing, implementation, and ongoing application support.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, enhance, and maintain SAP applications using ABAP.
- Work closely with business stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver effective technical solutions.
- Support the full software development lifecycle, including analysis, design, development, testing, and implementation.
- Investigate and resolve application issues, bugs, and service requests within agreed service levels.
- Deliver system enhancements, configuration changes, and new functionality to support business operations.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation for applications and system changes.
- Monitor support queues and change management systems, ensuring requests are prioritized and progressed appropriately.
- Collaborate with third-party suppliers and internal technical teams to resolve issues and deliver new capabilities.
- Ensure application security, integrity, and availability are maintained.
- Participate in system maintenance activities and provide occasional out-of-hours support for key business processes where required.
- Support application integrations and data exchange between enterprise systems.
- Keep configuration and change management records up to date and maintain accurate system documentation.

Skills & Experience
We're looking for someone with experience developing and supporting SAP solutions within a complex enterprise environment. You should have:
- Degree qualified (or equivalent experience) in an IT-related discipline.
- Strong SAP R/3 development experience.
- Proven ABAP programming experience.
- Experience supporting and developing business-critical enterprise applications.
- Knowledge of software development methodologies and systems delivery processes.
- Experience working with business stakeholders to gather requirements and deliver technical solutions.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- The ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively within a collaborative team.
Desirable Experience
Experience in any of the following would be advantageous:
- Manufacturing or Defence environments.
- SAP Business Process Automation by Redwood (CPS Job Scheduler).
- Application integrations and interface development.
- SAP configuration and enhancement projects.
- IT systems engineering disciplines including:
- Requirements Management
- Configuration Management
- Change Control
- Quality Management
- Reliability Analysis
- Business analysis and data analysis.
- Vendor management and third-party supplier coordination.
