Life At Springfield Vets Rotherham Hospital
We are a friendly, forward-thinking 24-hour hospital, staffed overnight by our own dedicated out-of-hours team to ensure continuity of care. Our RCVS-accredited hospital is rated “Outstanding” and was the second practice in the UK to achieve all six “Outstanding” awards after their introduction.
Our facilities were significantly enhanced in May 2022, including the addition of a CT scanner, allowing us to offer a high level of diagnostic capability in-house.
Our team comprises 15 vets and 22 nurses, including Advanced Practitioners in cardiology, ECC, surgery, and medicine, who work alongside a strong group of experienced GPs. On a weekend, the hospital is staffed by 2 other vets, 4 RVNs, receptionists a senior, experienced vet who oversees inpatients and can handle complex cases and surgeries – this would be a great development opportunity for anyone with 1+ years experience who is interested in ECC. We foster a highly collaborative environment, with regular case discussions, skill sharing, and supportive teamwork across all levels.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
