Main Purpose Of Job

The post holder is required to operate the saws at River Don and potentially Meadowhall. You will also be responsible for the loading and unloading of parts from transport vehicles, movement of material throughout the department including the loading and unloading of the individual saws.

The post holder is required to be flexible in their working hours and shifts.

It is important the person has an open mind on flexibility and is willing to move into other areas if necessary and cover other shifts. The core hours will be 4 x 10hr shifts Monday – Thursday days and nights. The main principle of the role is to feed stock to both Forge’s at River Don and Meadowhall and covering the tube saws for Meadowhall. There may be times when the operator will be required to cover a Forge front end roll and would be expected to take on training for these duties.

Key Tasks And Accountabilities

  • Operate the saw (following safe working practices), cutting material bar or forging on the tub saws into the relevant signed pieces ensuring they match the specification on the route cards. Material should be the accurate in length and weight and completed in a timely, safe and efficient way.
  • The safe and efficient movement and management of raw material through the site
  • Loading and unloading of parts onto external transport vehicles including container lorries.
  • The loading and unloading of sawn raw material (billets) from transport vehicles and the safe and secure stacking of all material unloaded.
  • Data entry to MRP/ERP systems relating to and the completion of kitting lists where necessary
  • Always ensure the highest level of cleanliness and safety and report any concerns immediately to your supervisor.
  • Any other ad hoc duties as required, and direction should be taken from a team leader where necessary

Experience And Qualifications

  • Basic computer skills essential.
  • Experience of working in a manufacturing environment
  • Working in a time driven environment
  • Previous experience of setting and running of band saws
  • Stock Control would be advantageous
  • FLT licence (Side loader would be advantageous)
  • O/H Crane Licence
