Birkin Group is part of SBX in the UK, bringing over 50 years of facilities expertise, a people-first culture, and a strong reputation for service excellence. This Head of Security & Innovation role will sit within SBX, working closely with the Birkin team to shape, develop, and grow a modern, technology-enabled security offering across the UK.
This is a senior leadership opportunity for someone who can combine strong security operations experience with a passion for innovation, artificial intelligence, emerging technology, and service transformation. You will shape the future of SBX Security, develop new client propositions, evaluate cutting-edge technologies, and help position the business at the forefront of the security and facilities management sectors.
About the role
Reporting to the COO SBX and working closely with the Birkin Senior Leadership Team, you will be responsible for building and developing SBX Security as a recognized service line. The role will cover security leadership, operational excellence, technology evaluation, AI-enabled service development, strategic partnerships, market intelligence, compliance, and growth support.

Key responsibilities
- Lead the development and growth of SBX Security, establishing operational standards, service frameworks, and a clear business plan.
- Identify, evaluate, and implement technology-enabled security solutions that improve service delivery, compliance, client outcomes, and commercial performance.
- Develop a Security & Innovation Roadmap aligned to business objectives and market opportunities.
- Assess emerging technologies including AI, video analytics, automation, robotics, IoT, smart buildings, drones, and operational intelligence platforms.
- Create business cases, pilot programs, and proof-of-concept deployments for new security and innovation initiatives.
- Build strong relationships with clients, technology partners, Birkin Group, industry bodies, and innovation networks.
- Support bids, tenders, presentations, pricing models, and new service propositions.
- Ensure responsible, ethical, and compliant use of AI, data, surveillance, and security technology.
- Lead and develop future security management capability, including the Security Operations Lead and wider security teams.
About you
- You have significant experience in the security industry, with a strong understanding of operational service delivery.
- You are confident leading teams, developing strategy, and building trusted relationships with senior stakeholders, clients, and partners.
- You understand how technology, AI, and innovation can improve operational performance and create commercial value.
- You can evaluate emerging solutions and translate them into practical, scalable service propositions.
- You bring strong commercial awareness, excellent communication skills, and the ability to support growth, bids, and client engagement.
- You are comfortable working in a fast-moving environment where strategic thinking, hands-on delivery, and continuous improvement are equally important.
- You hold a full UK Driving Licence.

Desirable experience
- Experience with AI video analytics, intelligent CCTV, VMS platforms, remote monitoring, or control room environments.
- Knowledge of Genetec, Milestone, NX Witness, or equivalent systems.
- Experience within facilities management, education, commercial, or public sector environments.
- Project management, IOSH, NEBOSH, or relevant security management qualifications.
- Understanding of GDPR, surveillance legislation, and AI governance.
