Network & Security Engineer must be SC Cleared – Outside IR35 Contract

Location: Midlands – 1 day per week on-site

Contract: 3–6 months - Possibility of further extension or going full-time

Security Clearance: Active SC Clearance essential

IR35: Outside IR35

We’re looking for an experienced Network & Security Engineer to join a technical team on an initial 3–6 month contract. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on network and security specialist with strong Cisco and Fortinet experience, working across enterprise and regulated environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Gather, assess and review network requirements for connecting bidirectional systems.
  • Plan and execute approved network changes within defined change windows.
  • Monitor, maintain and optimise network performance, availability and security.
  • Implement and enforce policies and procedures relating to network resource usage.
  • Proactively manage, maintain and optimise network and remote access solutions.
  • Drive continuous improvement through the adoption of best practices, reference architectures and reference solutions.
  • Manage network equipment requirements across multiple locations and environments.
  • Work collaboratively with wider network and infrastructure teams while ensuring compliance with relevant security and regulatory controls.
  • Contribute to the ongoing improvement of network and security standards, processes and technologies.

Key Skills & Experience

  • Strong hands-on experience managing Fortinet FortiGate firewalls.
  • Experience with FortiClient EMS, VPN/ZTNA, FortiAuthenticator and FortiToken MFA.
  • Strong expertise implementing and supporting Cisco networking and security technologies within enterprise environments.
  • Expert knowledge of TCP/IP, OSI model, RADIUS, IPsec, SSL and IDS/IPS.
  • CCNP Security or CCNP Enterprise certification desirable.
  • Experience working with OT networks and laboratory environments would be advantageous.
  • Good awareness of current trends and developments across network and information security technologies.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively across technical teams.
