WINTEL Engineer

Location: Corsham

Duration: 3 days

Clearance: Must hold or be eligible for UK Security Clearance (SC)

Rate: Up to £550 per day via an approved umbrella company

Overview

We are seeking an experienced WINTEL Engineer to join a high-profile programme delivering critical enterprise infrastructure services within a secure environment.

The successful candidate will provide hands-on engineering expertise across the full infrastructure lifecycle, supporting the design, build, integration, testing, and operational support of Windows-based platforms. This role is ideally suited to a motivated infrastructure specialist with strong Microsoft technology experience and a passion for delivering resilient, secure, and scalable enterprise solutions.

Working as part of a multidisciplinary technical team, you will play a key role in maintaining and enhancing core platform services that underpin mission-critical operations.

Key Responsibilities

As a WINTEL Engineer, you will:

  • Install, configure, maintain, and support Windows Server environments across enterprise-scale platforms.
  • Deploy and administer Microsoft enterprise services, including:
    • Active Directory
    • Group Policy
    • Exchange
    • SQL Server
    • WSUS
    • PKI
    • Skype for Business
    • DNS and DHCP
  • Support Windows-based workloads within highly virtualised infrastructure environments.
  • Perform system administration activities including patching, monitoring, backup, and disaster recovery processes.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve infrastructure incidents, problems, and technical issues across multiple services.
  • Support integration, testing, commissioning, and acceptance activities for new and existing systems.
  • Produce and maintain technical documentation including:
    • Low-Level Designs (LLDs)
    • Build Guides
    • Runbooks
    • Operational Procedures
  • Work closely with Service Management teams to investigate and resolve incidents and service requests.
  • Contribute to service improvement initiatives, automation opportunities, and platform standardisation.
  • Ensure all engineering activities are delivered in accordance with programme timelines, security policies, and quality standards.

Essential Skills & Experience

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Strong experience supporting and administering Windows Server environments (2012 R2, 2016 and later).
  • Proven expertise deploying and managing Active Directory within enterprise and secure environments.
  • Hands-on experience supporting Microsoft infrastructure technologies, including:
    • PKI
    • DNS
    • DHCP
    • Exchange
    • SQL Server
    • WSUS
  • Experience operating within virtualised infrastructure environments.
  • Strong knowledge of system administration, including:
    • Patching
    • Backup and Restore
    • Performance Monitoring
    • Availability Management
  • Experience using PowerShell for administration and automation tasks.
  • Ability to create and maintain detailed technical documentation.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with a methodical approach to problem-solving.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Experience working on complex technical programmes within large delivery teams.
  • Good understanding of ITIL Service Management principles.
  • Must hold, or be eligible to obtain, SC Clearance.

Desirable Skills & Experience

The following would be advantageous:

  • Experience working within Defence, National Security, Government, or other highly regulated environments.
  • Knowledge and experience of VMware virtualisation technologies.
  • Experience with infrastructure monitoring and management tools such as:
    • SCCM
    • SCOM
    • SolarWinds
    • Similar enterprise tooling
  • Understanding of networking fundamentals and Cisco technologies.
  • Experience working within Agile delivery environments.
  • Familiarity with Atlassian tools, including:
    • JIRA
    • Confluence
  • Industry certifications such as:
    • MCSE
    • Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA)
    • ITIL Foundation
    • Other relevant Microsoft infrastructure certifications
