Role – SCADA Engineer

Location – UK / Travel Across Multiple Project Sites Required

Mint Selection are partnered with a leading organisation within the energy sector to recruit an experienced SCADA Engineer to support the delivery of major UK energy infrastructure projects. The position will support the engineering, integration, testing and delivery of SCADA and control systems across a range of energy projects, working closely with clients, system integrators, OEMs and wider engineering teams.

The successful candidate will be involved throughout the project lifecycle, from design and configuration through to testing, site installation, fault finding and handover. Projects may include electrical substations, grid infrastructure, renewable generation, battery energy storage and other critical energy assets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, configure and develop SCADA and control systems for energy infrastructure projects.
  • Configure and integrate SCADA servers, HMIs, RTUs, PLCs, gateways and associated control-system hardware.
  • Develop and manage SCADA databases, point lists, alarms, indications, controls and telemetry.
  • Integrate protection relays, IEDs, meters, RTUs and other intelligent electrical equipment into SCADA systems.
  • Develop and review SCADA architectures, communication networks, control philosophies and technical specifications.
  • Work with communications protocols including IEC 61850, IEC 60870-5-101/104, DNP3, Modbus and other relevant utility protocols.
  • Review and validate signal lists, IO schedules, cause and effect documentation and functional specifications.
  • Support the integration of SCADA systems with client, DNO and TSO control environments.
  • Carry out Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) and integrated system testing.
  • Attend site to support installation, testing, commissioning and energisation activities.
  • Troubleshoot SCADA, communications, telemetry and control-system issues.
  • Carry out fault finding and identify solutions to technical issues during project delivery.
  • Work closely with Protection & Control, electrical, telecommunications, commissioning and project engineering teams.
  • Liaise with clients, SCADA vendors, OEMs, system integrators and subcontractors.
  • Review technical documentation, drawings, system architectures and test documentation.
  • Ensure SCADA systems are delivered in line with project specifications, client standards and relevant industry requirements.
  • Support OT and cyber security requirements within SCADA and control-system environments.
  • Produce technical reports, test documentation and as-built records.
  • Support the final handover of SCADA systems and associated documentation to the client or operational team.

Experience Required

  • Minimum five years’ experience working within SCADA, automation, control systems or substation control environments.
  • Strong practical experience configuring, testing and troubleshooting SCADA systems.
  • Experience working with RTUs, PLCs, HMIs, gateways, servers and associated control-system hardware.
  • Strong understanding of SCADA communications and industrial protocols, including IEC 61850, IEC 60870-5-101/104, DNP3 and Modbus.
  • Experience integrating protection relays, IEDs, meters, RTUs and other field devices into SCADA systems.
  • Experience developing and working with SCADA databases, point lists, alarms, indications, controls and telemetry.
  • Experience with Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) and integrated system testing.
  • Ability to interpret electrical drawings, single-line diagrams, SCADA architectures and functional specifications.
  • Experience fault-finding and resolving SCADA, communications and control-system issues.
  • Experience working alongside Protection & Control, electrical, commissioning, telecommunications and project engineering teams.
  • Experience liaising with clients, OEMs, SCADA vendors and system integrators.
  • Understanding of substation automation and the integration of electrical equipment into control systems.
  • Knowledge of OT environments and the importance of cyber security within critical infrastructure.
  • Strong technical documentation, reporting and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage technical tasks through to completion.
  • Willingness and ability to travel across the UK to support project requirements.
