SCADA Engineer – Primoris Renewable Energy
Job Overview
The SCADA Engineer will report to the Manager, SCADA & Performance Engineering and support both Pre-construction & Operations.
For Pre-construction, this role involves collaborating with Engineering, Estimating, and Procurement to:
- Review client SCADA specifications
- Solicit SCADA quotes from vendors and subcontractors
For Operations, the engineer will:
- Review SCADA plans/drawings from vendors and Engineers of Record (EORs)
- Support all commissioning and performance needs
- Aid project teams in managing 3rd-party SCADA suppliers
Primary Job Responsibilities

Technical Review & Solicitation:
- Review and provide input on client-provided SCADA technical specifications and Scope of Work (SOW)
- Solicit proposals from SCADA suppliers, vendors, and subcontractors

Collaboration & Coordination:
- Work with Substation, BESS (Battery Energy Storage Systems), and O&M vendors to streamline SCADA communication processes
- Assist in managing relationships with external SCADA providers

Documentation & Site Support:
- Review and provide feedback on SCADA drawing packages from 3rd-party vendors and EORs
- Attend SCADA vendor and equipment manufacturer training sessions

Commissioning & Troubleshooting:
- Support the construction team during SCADA commissioning
- Assist the performance team during plant performance testing
- Troubleshoot operational and post-warranty issues for active and warranty-stage sites
Education & Experience Requirements
Experience & Qualifications
- Degree: Bachelor of Science/Engineering in Electronics/Communications, Electrical, Mechanical, Computer Science, Data Analytics Engineering, or a related engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited institution
- Work Experience: Minimum 2–5 years in SCADA Engineering, preferably within the Renewable Energy Industry
- Technical Tools & Integrations:
- Familiarity with Microsoft Teams (internal communications)
- Experience with AutoDesk Construction Cloud (ACC)
- Proficiency in AutoDesk or MS Visio for SCADA Single Line Diagrams

Preferred Skills & Abilities
Technical Proficiencies
- Industry Knowledge:
- Familiarity with key equipment manufacturers in Solar, BESS, and HV (high-voltage) industries
- Understanding of IEC61850 and IEEE communication protocols
- Compliance awareness for NERC, FERC, and utility communication requirements
- HMI & Networking Skills:
- Ability to navigate Human-Machine Interfaces (HMIs) for various SCADA suppliers
- Knowledge of SCADA communication protocols (TCP/IP, Modbus) and network topologies in utility-scale renewable energy systems
Administrative & Workplace Skills

Programming & Software: Microsoft Office & Excel proficiency; programming skills preferred

- Ability to understand manufacturer operating parameters, application limitations, and commissioning guidelines
- Ability to interpret technical plans, specifications, and compliance standards

- Strong communication (written, verbal, email, telephone, in-person)
