About the role
As a SCADA Engineer, Configure, you will maintain and test the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) tool, as well as the links between SCADA and telemetry, to ensure that SCADA is an accurate reflection of the National Transmission System (NTS), it is receiving accurate data, and alarms and controls are functioning and telemetered correctly for use by the National Control Centre, allowing them to deliver gas safely and efficiently.
What you'll be doing
- Oversee telemetry verification process for NTS by conduct End to End tests, utilising Subject Matter Expertise and Safety and Technical Competency knowledge, with National Gas and customers to ensure the correct telemetry is being sent between the Control Room and sites.
- Oversee Compressor annual compressor safety check process (return to service checks), using SME and STC knowledge, to ensure all compressors are fit for service when deemed operational for Control Room use.
- Review SCADA configuration requirements and changes, including review of NRO and Input/Output schedules, ensuring compliance to INE/8 and COMP/31 and ensuring that telemetry work carried out on the NTS is in accordance with Safe Control of Operations, using SME and STC knowledge.
- Create, maintain and amend SCADA functionality, system mimics and line-pack model in accordance with NTS maintenance schedule to ensure accurate representation of physical system / site configurations whilst maintaining best practice standards for Human Machine Interfaces, using SME and STC knowledge.
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders across the business to collaborate on projects, updates to software, best practice and optimisation of SCADA functionality. Develop and maintain process improvements.
- Analyse Control Room alarms in accordance SCADA Alarm management processes and reporting to strive for compliance with EEMUA/191, investigating causes for Amber or Red alarm KPIs to identify opportunities to reduce unnecessary alarms, using SME knowledge.
- Investigate anomalous data observed in SCADA, using SME knowledge, to identify root causes for stakeholders to ensure they have all the necessary information as part of their decision-making processes.
- Provide technical expertise and guidance in relation to the SCADA system.

What you'll bring
You are passionate about SCADA systems as real-time reflections of real-world systems to provide control rooms with the data they need to effectively control systems. You’re an experienced communicator and collaborator, able to build rapport with stakeholders at all levels. Your proactive approach and analytical mindset mean you’re always looking for ways to add value and solve problems before they arise.
Essential
- Good communicator with ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships across all stakeholders.
- Strong numerical ability and demonstrable analytical and logical thinking.
- Proven conceptual and analytical skills with the ability to understand technical concepts and accurately distil detailed and complex information simply and effectively.
- Significant ability to manage multiple tasks at any given time.
- Experience of project management beneficial.
- Recognised engineering or technical qualification (degree level or equivalent), and/or significant professional experience working with SCADA systems.

- Knowledge and understanding of managing and using SCADA systems.
- Understanding of the physical operation of the gas networks.
- Security clearance
This role is subject to National Security Vetting (NSV). Candidates must be eligible to obtain and maintain Security Clearance (SC) throughout their employment. For further information, visit UK Security Vetting: Clearance Levels.
