Role: Scala Developer
Location: Chester, UK
Type: Permanent/ Full-Time
Role Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Scala Developer to join our Technology team. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining high-performance APIs, backend services, and integrations that support modern application platforms.
The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in Scala, Java, and MySQL, along with a strong understanding of software engineering principles and a passion for building scalable, reliable, and maintainable solutions.
Job Description:
- Design, develop, test, and maintain scalable, high-performance applications using Scala.
- Build, enhance, and maintain backend services, APIs, and microservices.
- Design and optimize database solutions using MySQL.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand requirements and deliver high-quality software solutions.
- Troubleshoot and resolve application performance, scalability, and reliability issues.
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to software design standards and development best practices.
- Contribute to CI/CD implementation, deployment automation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Develop clean, maintainable, and well-tested code aligned with established engineering standards.

Required Qualifications & Skills
- IT experience, with strong expertise in software development.
- Strong programming experience in Scala, with familiarity with relevant Scala frameworks and libraries.
- Good working knowledge of Java and backend application development.
- Strong understanding of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) and Functional Programming (FP) concepts.
- Proven experience designing and developing scalable, high-performance applications and backend services.
- Strong knowledge of MySQL, including database design, query optimization, and performance tuning.
- Hands-on experience developing and consuming RESTful APIs and working with microservices architectures.
- Experience with version control systems such as Git.
- Familiarity with DevOps practices and CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or Azure DevOps.
- Strong problem-solving, debugging, and analytical skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively within cross-functional and distributed development teams.

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in banking, financial services, or other enterprise environments.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms, containerization, or modern deployment practices.
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum development environments.
