Scala Developer | Digital Public Sector Programme

Location: Telford (2 days per week onsite)
Rate: £490 per day (PAYE / INSIDE)
Duration: 6 Months
Clearance: BPSS Required

Your New Role

We are seeking an experienced Scala Developer to join a major public sector digital transformation programme focused on delivering modern, user-centric services that support the UK government's Making Tax Digital (MTD) initiative. This programme is helping transform the UK tax system through innovative digital solutions and cloud-native technologies.

Working within a mature Agile environment, you will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to design, develop, deploy, and support high-performance Scala-based microservices. You'll play a key role in delivering modern digital services that directly impact millions of users.

What You'll Need to Succeed

  • Strong commercial experience with Scala
  • Experience developing applications using Play Framework
  • Strong knowledge of unit testing and integration testing
  • Experience working in Agile delivery environments
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills
  • Experience developing and supporting microservices architectures

  • Developing and enhancing Scala Play microservices
  • Delivering high-quality code within Agile delivery teams
  • Working closely with researchers, designers, and technical specialists
  • Supporting services throughout the full development lifecycle
  • Participating in testing, deployment, and monitoring activities
  • Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives and engineering best practices
  • Collaborating across development communities to share knowledge and drive innovation
