Scotland's Railway is part of this large family and it covers a large geographical area from the Borders to Thurso at the far tip of the North East of Scotland, accounting for almost 20 per cent of the UK rail network. We provide rapid access along busy commuter routes to our seven cities, servicing the varied needs of our business and leisure commuter services, including cross border services and rural services. We have up to 50 freight services operating every day and we are steadily building capacity for this to grow. About The Role
This position will play a key role in the rolling programme of decarbonisation by delivering key projects such as Fife electrification, Borders electrification and Dundee-Arbroath to support the introduction of the new battery-electric train fleet.
The Decarbonisation Programme is transforming the railway across Fife and the wider Scottish network by introducing a cleaner, greener, and a more reliable electric railway. As a Scheme Project Manager, you will play a key role in the safe and successful delivery of a diverse portfolio of infrastructure projects, working alongside multidisciplinary teams to overcome complex engineering challenges while maintaining a live operational railway.

This role offers the opportunity to contribute to major enhancements including overhead line equipment, bridge modifications, station improvements, signalling interfaces, and power infrastructure upgrades. You will engage with a wide range of stakeholders, contractors, and specialists, helping to deliver projects that support Scotland's journey towards a more sustainable transport network. No two days are the same, providing excellent opportunities to develop your project management skills, broaden your technical knowledge, and make a lasting impact on the future of rail travel.
Here are some of the duties your role will include:
- Accountable for delivery of low complexity projects or parts of complex projects in a safe & environmentally responsible manner to time, cost and quality, in accordance with the Project Acceleration in a Controlled (PACE) framework, applicable Network Rail company standards, current legislation and procedures including HMRI guidance where appropriate.
- Work closely with Project Managers to lead, inspire, & direct multi-disciplinary teams to deliver successful projects to meet route objectives for internal and external stakeholders.
- Manage and implement Construction Design Management (CDM) requirements associated with projects to deliver compliance to regulations.
- Manage multi-disciplinary teams including commercial, programme controls, engineering, and others to identify solutions to client requirements and establish a robust baseline plan.
- Identify and monitor project risks (threats and opportunities), plan and implement mitigations to them, and respond to other issues that affect the project.
- Implement and update resource allocation plans needed for delivery of the project including identification and management of critical resource requirements. Secure resources needed for projects from internal and external sources.
- Managing stakeholders, taking account of their levels of influence and particular interests.
- Managing project reviews at appropriate points throughout the project lifecycle which will inform governance decisions of projects by providing evaluations of progress, performance, risk, contingency, and continuing relevance.
- Manage change control in collaboration with contractors by establishing, and implementing where necessary, protocols to change the scope of projects and update configuration documents as required, in accordance with NR processes.
- Support accident investigations when remitted to by the relevant designated competent person.

Essential Requirements
Your experience and skills
- Educated to degree level in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience.
- Membership (or working towards membership) of the Association for Project Management.
- Achieved PRINCE2 Foundation or equivalent.
- Good stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
- Successful relevant experience including experience of contracting and project delivery.
- Knowledge and experience of project budget management.
- Good evaluation and decision-making skills.
- Project safety management and Health and Safety legislation knowledge.
- Knowledge safety cases in support of projects.
Desirable
- Experience in the Rail Industry Sector (including application of GRIP, and Construction Design Management (CDM) on simple projects).
- Knowledge of Network Rail's Project, Investment, Commercial and Procurement practices.
- Experience in risk identification, assessment and mitigation.
- Flexible and pro-active approach.
- You will be a team player with willingness to learn, challenge and get involved.
- Knowledge of Network Rail's assets and how they are managed.
