About the role

Are you an experienced school finance professional looking for a varied and rewarding role with a flexible, part-time working pattern?

Roundwood Primary School is looking for an experienced and highly organised School Bursar / Finance & Operations Officer to play a key role in the effective financial and operational management of our school.

Working closely with the Headteacher, Governors and Senior Leadership Team, you will provide high-quality financial information, advice and support to help ensure the school’s resources are managed effectively.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong school finance experience who enjoys taking ownership of their work and wants to make a real contribution to the successful running of a school.

What you’ll be doing

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing and monitoring the school’s finances, budgets and financial systems
  • Supporting budget setting, forecasting and longer-term financial planning
  • Preparing accurate financial reports and information for the Headteacher and Governors
  • Supporting payroll, staffing and associated financial analysis
  • Managing day-to-day financial administration and ensuring appropriate financial controls are maintained
  • Supporting HR administration and wider school operational requirements
  • Helping ensure the school meets relevant financial, statutory and compliance requirements
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues and external partners to support the smooth and effective running of the school

About you

We are looking for someone who has previous experience of finance within a school environment and a good understanding of school financial processes.

You will be:

  • Confident in budget management, financial reporting and forecasting
  • Highly organised, accurate and comfortable working with detailed financial information
  • Able to analyse information and explain financial matters clearly to non-finance colleagues
  • Confident using school finance and management systems
  • Able to work independently, prioritise effectively and meet deadlines
  • Discreet and professional when handling confidential information
  • A strong communicator who can build effective working relationships with staff, governors and external organisations
  • Flexible and willing to contribute to the wider operational needs of the school

Experience with relevant school systems, including FMS and SIMS, would be particularly valuable.

This is an opportunity to take on an important role at the heart of the school while benefiting from a working pattern that offers genuine flexibility.

The position is 21 hours per week over three days and term-time only (39 weeks per year). Working days can be agreed, with flexibility available for the right candidate.

You will work closely with the school’s leadership and have the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to both its financial management and its wider operation.
