School Business Manager – Permanent Position
Location: Fazakerley, Liverpool
Start Date: 1 September 2026
Contract: Full Time, Permanent
Working Pattern: 37 hours per week, 42 weeks per year
Salary: Grade 7, SCP 30–35 – £40,777–£46,142 per annum
About the Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and highly motivated School Business Manager to join a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Fazakerley, Liverpool. The successful candidate will play a key strategic and operational role within the school, working closely with the Headteacher, Deputy Headteacher and Governing Board to ensure the school’s resources, finances, people and facilities are managed effectively.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting a school community and who can combine strong financial and operational expertise with a commitment to the wellbeing and development of pupils, staff and the wider school community.
The Role
As School Business Manager, you will lead and oversee a broad range of school business functions, including:
- Financial management and strategic planning, including budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting and ensuring value for money.
- Human resources, including recruitment, staff records, payroll, absence management, workforce planning and employment processes.
- Health & Safety and premises management, ensuring the school remains a safe, secure and well-maintained environment.
- Procurement and contract management, including supplier negotiations, tenders, benchmarking and securing best value.
- Administration and business systems, ensuring effective and efficient processes across the school.
- ICT and data protection, overseeing systems, contracts, GDPR compliance and statutory data requirements.
- Governance, compliance and risk management, supporting the Governing Board and ensuring all relevant statutory requirements are met.
- Income generation and fundraising, identifying grant opportunities and other potential funding streams.
- Marketing and communications, supporting the school's website, prospectus, communications and engagement with families.
- Attendance, working alongside the school's Attendance Lead to support analysis, reporting and improvements in pupil attendance.
- Line management, supporting and developing administrative, finance, facilities, lunchtime and other relevant support staff.

You will be expected to work with a high degree of autonomy, providing professional advice and guidance to senior leaders and governors while ensuring that business decisions are aligned with the school's strategic priorities.
About You
The school is looking for an exceptional individual who is:
- Experienced in financial, business or operational management, ideally within an education or public-sector environment.
- Highly organised, proactive and able to manage a varied workload effectively.
- Confident working with budgets, financial forecasting, reporting and compliance.
- Able to analyse complex information and provide clear, practical advice to senior leaders and governors.
- Experienced in HR processes and staff management.
- Knowledgeable about safeguarding, health & safety, GDPR and relevant statutory requirements.
- Commercially aware, with a strong understanding of procurement, contracts and value for money.
- A confident communicator who can build positive relationships with staff, governors, parents, suppliers and external partners.
- Able to work strategically while remaining comfortable managing day-to-day operational requirements.
