Caretaker

Location: Rochdale

Contract: Temp to Perm

Full time/Part time: Full Time

Pay: £17-19 per hour

Start date: September 2026

Expected End date: Ongoing

A welcoming and well-established school in Rochdale is seeking a reliable, proactive, and hardworking Caretaker to join their site team from September 2026. The school is committed to providing a safe, secure, and well-maintained environment for pupils, staff, and visitors.

The successful candidate will play an important role in ensuring the school premises, buildings, and grounds are maintained to a high standard. You will work closely with the school's leadership team and site staff to support the day-to-day running of the school and ensure the site remains safe, clean, secure, and operational.

This role would suit someone with previous caretaking, facilities, maintenance, or site-management experience who takes pride in their work and is confident working independently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensuring the school buildings and grounds are safe, secure, and well-maintained
  • Carrying out general maintenance and minor repairs across the school site
  • Completing regular checks of the buildings, facilities, and external areas
  • Opening and securing the school premises as required
  • Responding promptly to maintenance issues and reporting larger repairs where necessary
  • Supporting contractors and external visitors when working on site
  • Maintaining school grounds, including basic gardening and outdoor upkeep
  • Assisting with moving furniture, equipment, and resources around the school
  • Monitoring site security and ensuring safeguarding procedures are followed
  • Maintaining appropriate records relating to site checks, maintenance, and health and safety
  • Supporting the school with emergency procedures and site-related incidents
  • Ensuring the school environment is clean, safe, and suitable for pupils and staff
  • Working collaboratively with the senior leadership team and wider school staff

  • Have previous experience in caretaking, maintenance, facilities, or a similar role
  • Be practical, reliable, and able to use initiative
  • Have good general maintenance and DIY skills
  • Be confident identifying and reporting health and safety issues
  • Be able to work independently and manage day-to-day tasks effectively
  • Have good communication and organizational skills
  • Be flexible and willing to respond to the changing needs of the school
  • Have a professional and approachable manner
  • Have a good understanding of safeguarding and site security
  • Have the right to work in the UK
