Job Title: School Cleaner
Location: Trimdon Hill School, Durham, TS29 6EY
Hours: 15 hours per week | Monday–Friday | 3pm - 6pm
Salary: £9,261.75 per annum (£13.25 per hour, not pro rata)
Contract: Permanent | Term Time Only plus 2 weeks
Start: November 2026

Trimdon Hill School is seeking a reliable and motivated School Cleaner to join our onsite team. This position offers a rewarding opportunity to contribute directly to the daily running of our school by maintaining a hygienic and orderly environment, essential to the health and safety of everyone on site.
As a vital member of the school’s facilities team, you will be responsible for maintaining high cleanliness and hygiene standards across the school premises. Your work will support the smooth day-to-day operations of the school and help ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety regulations.
You will be expected to work independently while also collaborating with colleagues. Occasionally, you may be asked to undertake additional duties appropriate to the role, as directed by the Office Manager or Headteacher.
What you'll do:
- Perform daily cleaning duties including sweeping, mopping, dusting, and polishing surfaces throughout classrooms, corridors, offices, and communal areas
- Thoroughly clean and sanitize toilets, changing rooms, and other sanitary facilities
- Manage waste disposal responsibly, including collection, sorting, and removal
- Replenish consumables such as soap, paper towels, and toilet rolls to maintain supplies
- Follow cleaning schedules meticulously and complete special cleaning projects during school holidays or designated closure periods
- Operate cleaning equipment safely and efficiently as per training and instructions
- Maintain secure, tidy storage of cleaning materials and equipment
- Promptly report any faulty equipment, maintenance needs, or safety concerns via the electronic reporting system
- Support the wider school team by undertaking additional janitorial tasks as directed by the Office Manager or Headteacher

Who we are looking for
- Previous experience in a cleaning or janitorial role, ideally in a school or similar environment
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to high standards of hygiene
- Reliability, punctuality, and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- Good communication skills and a proactive approach to problem-solving
- Awareness of health and safety procedures related to cleaning and janitorial work

Trimdon Hill School is a brand-new independent specialist school in Trimdon Grange, County Durham, supporting pupils aged 4–11 with autism and associated complex needs. Opened in June 2025, we provide a safe, nurturing, and therapeutic environment where every child is supported to SHINE. Our personalised, autism-informed curriculum develops communication, social interaction, and curiosity through rich, inclusive learning.
Working closely with families and clinical professionals, we support each child’s progress, independence, and readiness for the next stage of education.
For over 19 years, Options Autism has provided specialist care and education for children, young people, and adults with autism, complex needs, and learning difficulties.
