Job Overview
As a member of the school health service, you will support the 5-19 team in the undertaking of the National Child Measuring Programme (NCMP), Hearing and Vision (H&V), Health Needs Assessment Questionnaires (HNA) and Single Point of Access administration duties (Duty SPA).
- To assist with the co-ordination, uploading and organisation of NCMP, H&V and HNA questionnaires, data reports and received documents.
- The post holder will screen/complete NCMP, HNA and H&V. All data to be reported on as per KPI.
- The information received will be disseminated appropriately to all parents/carers to ensure that outcome letters/emails are produced as required and within timeframes.
- Establishing and maintaining contact with the school health team and act as an information resource to other health professionals, outside agencies, and any statutory partners with enquiries of a non-clinical nature relaying confidential information regarding clients, whilst adhering to strict guidelines.
- To be competent at a range of administration task/duties to support the service as appropriate (E.g. emails, electronic task, minutes, scanning, photocopying, printing, filing, archiving, letters, leaflets, ordering, and checking equipment, supporting the organisation for packs for training &/or programmes, minute taking)
- The post holder will support the co-ordination with schools to develop and deliver programmes in compliance with Department of Health regulations, liaising with professionals and education to ensure any data required is collated, accurate and received in a timely manner.
- The post holder will assist the team lead to ensure all completed data is recorded, processed, and uploaded onto HSCIC so that this data can be reported on annually.
- The information received will be disseminated appropriately to all parents/carers to ensure that outcome letters/emails are produced in-line with national guidelines and localised with internal and healthy lifestyle programmes.
- To work as a member of the School Health Service Team, liaising closely with other team members.
- To undertake administration tasks including inputting all NCMP, H&V and HNA data, checking families’ details, producing & sending out letters for families, ensuring systems are in place to support the processes and care pathways.
- To accurately produce letters, emails, reports, team meeting minutes and other written material within agreed timescales from a variety of sources.
- To work flexibly to ensure that all work is completed in a timely manner.
- To be responsible for identifying issues or concerns to line managers for appropriate action to be taken.
- To order all stock required ensuring monitoring of health promotional material relevant to programmes.
- To perform general office tasks such as including photocopying, scanning, document distribution, shredding relevant documents, answering the telephone, preparing, and sending messages in support of the efficient running of the services, in relation to NCMP, H&V, HNA, SPA and any other School Health Service programmes/services.
- To maintain recording all relevant information on SystmOne, and/or equivalent.
- Maintain school lists and accurate data collection on SystmOne, HSCIC, School Screener or Equivalent.
- To recognise the sensitivity of business undertaken and to ensure strict confidentiality.
- Collect/deliver post, between school/clinic bases. Travel between School/Health Centres/ Clinics, as required.
- Any other duties commensurate with the post holder’s capabilities and experience.
- To act in accordance with organisation policy and guidelines regarding Child Protection as set out in the SET Procedures; and local Identification and Tracking procedures.
- To be aware of organisation policies / protocols / guidelines.
- To maintain an updated record of training sessions attended and learning experiences / outcomes.
- To receive annual appraisal and to use personal development plans to enable personal and professional development.
- To receive mentorship, clinical and child protection supervision.
- To attend Professional Forums and Team meetings.
- To treat any information or matters always relating to work as confidential.
- Strive to improve the quality of healthcare, care, and support through continuing professional development.

Main duties of the job
- To be responsible, and accountable, for service delivery to clients/patients
- To be able to initiate referrals to other health professional specialist services and agencies.
- To provide patients and relatives with information and education thus ensuring they have meaningful choices that promote dignity, independence and quality of life.
- To complete all measuring and screening on children as part of the national child measurement programme and hearing and vision screening.
- To work according to the current child protection policies and procedures within NELFT and undertake three monthly safeguarding supervision as per trust policy.
- Modify intervention as needed depending on risk assessment, the situation and own skills and knowledge. Refer back to the School Nurse for support and advice ensuring that they are aware of any modifications made.
- Deal calmly and professionally with direct/indirect exposure to angry or distressed patients or highly distressing or emotional information (e.g. complaints and serious incidents) about services and staff performance.
- Work collaboratively with other services, which may include children’s services. Ensure robust communication and liaisons where relevant information, relating to a child or young person (0-19), is obtained during the course of their work.

Starting with NELFT
NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop-in sessions focusing on engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.
Probationary Period
This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).
High Cost Area Supplement Fringe (Basildon, Thurrock, Brentwood, Harlow and Dartford only)
This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 5% of the basic salary (with a minimum of £1,346 to a maximum of £2,270 p.a. pro rata for part time)
