Job Overview

Are you a SCPHN School Nurse who is highly motivated with excellent team working and communication skills? If so then we would love you to come and join us!

We are currently expanding our School Nursing Service as part of our model of delivery and are recruiting to School Nurse posts. Our model uses 2 streams and incorporates the development of ways of working to meet the needs of our diverse and growing population. We would also like to hear from you if you are SCPHN School Nurse Student due to qualify. We actively encourage any applicants to come and meet the management team and 0-19 colleagues.

This is a year-round post working a minimum 30 hours per week between 9am-5pm.

Main duties of the job

The role promotes the health, wellbeing and development of children and young people through universal, targeted and specialist interventions, ensuring services are accessible, confidential, inclusive and centred on the voice of the child. The post holder assesses population, community, family and individual health needs, identifying risks, protective factors and health inequalities. The role includes undertaking holistic assessments, developing and evaluating evidence-based plans of care, providing health promotion and early intervention, supporting priorities such as emotional wellbeing, healthy lifestyles, resilience, relationships, risk reduction and preparation for adulthood. The School Nurse contributes to safeguarding through risk assessment, professional curiosity, information sharing, multi-agency working and escalation of concerns, ensuring the lived experience and voice of children and young people are represented. The post holder provides clinical leadership within the skill-mix team, maintaining accountability for assessment, delegation, decision-making and quality of care. Responsibilities include maintaining accurate records, using digital systems, contributing to clinical governance, audit, service evaluation and quality improvement, and supporting student learning. The role requires effective partnership working to improve outcomes, promote equitable access and ensure children and young people receive coordinated, high-quality care and support.

Education & Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Registered nurse or midwife with current NMC registration
  • Current NMC registration as a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (School Nurse)

Desirable criteria

  • Qualification or recognised preparation for practice supervision and/or assessment
  • Evidence of continuing professional development

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Experience of working with families and children/ young people to improve health outcomes through the delivery of the 5-19 Healthy Child Programme.
  • Evidence of caseload management and organisational skills
  • Ability to work independently and within a team.
  • Experience of multi-agency working.
  • Ability to manage complex and distressing situations / cases

Essential criteria

  • Knowledge of safeguarding children, local and national policy, including information sharing, consent, confidentiality and professional accountability.
