About the Role
We are currently recruiting four Schools Finance Officers to support Birmingham-based schools and academies in delivering effective financial management and governance. This is an excellent opportunity to work closely with headteachers, school Business Managers, and governing bodies, providing expert financial advice and strategic support across a range of educational settings.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide financial support and advice to schools and academies to ensure effective budget management
- Undertake budget planning and financial monitoring visits, including schools with local payment and cheque book facilities
- Produce accurate and timely financial reports for Governing Bodies and senior leadership teams
- Attend and present at Governing Body and Finance Committee meetings
- Support schools with financial systems and interpretation of financial data
- Identify and implement process and system improvements
- Build strong relationships with stakeholders across schools, academies, and external organisations
- Ensure delivery of services in line with Service Level Agreements and contracts

What We're Looking For
You will be a detail-oriented finance professional with a strong understanding of school funding and financial practices. You'll be confident working independently while building strong relationships with a range of stakeholders, ensuring schools are supported to achieve effective and compliant financial management.
Essential Requirements
- Proven experience in school financial management, including budget preparation and budgetary control
- Strong understanding of school finance systems and processes
- Experience producing financial monitoring reports and presenting to senior stakeholders
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across Birmingham
- Systems Experience (Essential)
Experience using one or more of the following:- Bromcom
- FMS
- Access Finance / Access Budgeting
- Arbor
