Science Technician (Level 2)
Permanent
23 hours per week, term-time only
Grade 3, scp3 - £25,614 pro-rata
Required: From November 2026
At Dorchester Middle School, we are committed to providing a high-quality, engaging curriculum that inspires curiosity and a love of learning. We are seeking an enthusiastic, organized and reliable science technician to join our successful team and support the delivery of practical science lessons across the school.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a science background or practical laboratory experience to play a vital role in supporting teaching and learning.
Key Aspects Of The Role
- Prepare and maintain laboratories, classrooms, equipment and materials for practical science lessons.
- Set up and assemble apparatus and resources required for teaching activities.
- Support teachers and pupils during practical sessions.
- Maintain equipment and undertake basic repairs where practical.
- Ensure safe storage, handling and disposal of chemicals and materials.
- Maintain inventories, records and service schedules.
- Assist with ordering, stock control and resource management.
- Ensure compliance with Health and Safety and COSHH requirements.
The Successful Applicant Will
- Hold a relevant NVQ Level 2 or above, or equivalent experience.
- Have practical laboratory or technical experience.
- Demonstrate excellent organisational and communication skills.
- Be able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Be committed to safeguarding and inclusion.

The pro rata salary shown is based on the number of hours and weeks worked and includes appropriate paid annual leave and bank holiday entitlements.
The salary quoted is the annual salary for the position at the time of advert. The salary will be paid in equal monthly instalments and will be adjusted at the start of employment and again if leaving part way through the school year to ensure the correct salary is received for the work completed in an academic year.

Keeping Children Safe in Education
Dorchester Middle School and Wessex Multi-Academy Trust will conduct online searches of shortlisted candidates. This check will be part of a safeguarding check, and the search will purely be based on whether an individual is suitable to work with children. All aspects of social media and internet searches will be conducted. As care must be taken to avoid unconscious bias and any risk of discrimination, a person who will not on the appointment panel will conduct the searches and will only share information if and when findings are relevant and of concern.
