Scientific Assistant Intern
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Scientific Assistant Intern to join the Institute as a key member of our scientific team, supporting our work to promote food science and technology for the benefit, safety and health of everyone.
In this role, you will play a crucial role in supporting our Head of Knowledge, Learning and Communications and Scientific Committee with our scientific output, and will be part of technical projects for the identification, collation and creation of advisory knowledge-sharing materials for IFST stakeholders, including professionals working in the food sector.
You will gain the opportunity to:
- Grow your professional network by working alongside leading food science and technology professionals
- Develop an understanding of the role of professional bodies like IFST in supporting and advancing the sector
- Attend IFST events, gaining exposure to the wider food science community
- Work closely with IFST's Scientific Committee and Special Interest Groups
- Gain experience of scientific and technical resource development processes
- Develop practical workplace skills including team working, non-academic research, strategic communication and office systems
This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain insight into how IFST operates, as the leading professional body for those involved in all aspects of food science and technology. We are an internationally respected independent membership body, supporting people and businesses through knowledge sharing and professional recognition. Our membership comprises individuals from a wide range of backgrounds, from students to experts, working across a wide range of disciplines within the sector.

Additional Information
This is a 6-month (with possibility to extend), part-time, paid internship, to start in September 2026. The role will be suitable for a student, postgraduate or early-career researcher.
If you are UK-based and interested in developing your scientific skills, join us to help put our ambitious plans into practice. Applicants must have the right to work in the UK and be able to commit to approximately 20 hours per week.
