Scientific Assistant – Plant Tissue Culture
We are looking for a highly enthusiastic, adaptable, organised and hardworking individual with excellent attention to detail. You will be working with plant cell cultures used to produce novel high-performing varieties of banana crops.
Job Purpose
We are recruiting a Scientific Assistant to join our Banana Biotechnology Team at Tropic who will be fundamental in the production of novel, improved banana varieties using cutting-edge gene-editing technology.
Your role will be to work in our dedicated tissue culture lab and support all stages of the production and maintenance of banana plant cell cultures.
This job will suit you if you have excellent manual skills, are adaptable to change and are comfortable with working in a repetitive environment, where efficiency, precision, attention to detail and positivity are essential.
The role is available to all levels, from entry to experienced. Full training will be provided, and no previous knowledge of Plant Science or lab work is required. We are looking for someone with a positive and inquisitive attitude, willingness to get stuck in and who fits in with the diverse and inclusive culture we have at Tropic.

Responsibilities
- Maintenance of large number of plant cell cultures in sterile conditions
- Labelling and recording all processed samples
- Collaborate with a highly dynamic team of lab technicians to deliver high-quality cultures
Requirements
- Positive, enthusiastic, and inquisitive attitude
- Precisive manual skills
- Ability to execute instructions repeatedly to high standards
- Adaptability and flexibility to change
- Accuracy in record keeping
- Ability to work as part of a team and independently where required
- Work well as part of a fast-paced manufacture and production environment
