Our Liverpool site
Our Liverpool facility provides integrated biologics development and manufacturing services across Analytical and Process Sciences. The site has an established track record in biologics development, with capabilities supporting gene therapy drug substance development, viral vectors, plasmid DNA, analytical release testing, and product characterisation.
You will join a collaborative scientific environment where Analytical Sciences teams work closely with project leads and other technical functions to deliver high-quality solutions for internal and client programmes.
The Role
We are seeking a motivated and practical Scientific Associate III to join our Biologics Analytical Sciences team in Liverpool.
This is a hands-on laboratory position supporting the development, optimisation, phase-appropriate validation, transfer, and application of analytical methods for biological products. You will contribute to in-process development testing, non-GMP activities, and cGMP release testing while working closely with project leads and multidisciplinary scientific teams.
The role provides an excellent opportunity to develop your experience across a range of analytical disciplines, including immunoassays, molecular biology, product characterisation, and GMP analysis. Depending on your existing knowledge and experience, you may work with techniques such as ELISA, potency assays, qPCR, ddPCR, sequencing, LC-MS, AUC, DLS, DSC, or TEM.

Key Roles and Responsibilities
- Perform analytical testing to support the development and characterisation of biological products.
- Support analytical method development, optimisation, validation, transfer, and application.
- Complete GMP and non-GMP testing and documentation accurately and within project timelines.
- Support project leads in delivering internal and client work packages.
- Prepare, review, and report scientific documentation and analytical results with a right-first-time approach.
- Work in accordance with quality, regulatory, GMP, and EHS requirements.
- Maintain laboratory equipment, reagents, consumables, and high housekeeping standards.
- Support new equipment implementation and the training of colleagues.
- Develop expertise across analytical characterisation, immunoassays, molecular biology, cell-based methods, and GMP analysis.
- Contribute to 5S, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to meet project objectives and provide occasional out-of-hours cover when required.
Requirements
Essential
- BSc, MSc, or equivalent in a relevant life sciences discipline
- Relevant laboratory experience in a pharmaceutical, biopharmaceutical, biotechnology, or similar scientific environment.
- Strong organisational and communication skills, with excellent attention to detail and the flexibility to adapt to changing priorities while meeting project timelines.
- Good knowledge and understanding of one or more of the following techniques:
- Immunoassays, including ELISA, potency, or host cell protein testing
- Molecular biology, including qPCR, ddPCR, sequencing, or residual DNA testing
- Product characterisation, including LC-MS, AUC, DLS, DSC, or TEM
- Effective communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
- A safety-focused, flexible approach and commitment to quality, regulatory, and EHS standards.
- Motivation to learn and develop within analytical sciences.

- Industrial experience in biopharmaceuticals or pharmaceuticals, ideally gene therapy.
- Experience in analytical method development, optimisation, validation, transfer, or equipment qualification.
- Experience in a GMP or regulated laboratory environment.
- Experience preparing scientific procedures, protocols, and reports.
- Knowledge of statistical analysis and experimental design.
