About the Role:
The Scientific Director will lead and shape the strategic direction of our IME (Independent Medical Education) and scientific content solutions. You'll be responsible for developing evidence-based content strategies, therapeutic area plans, and educational program concepts that drive customer engagement and revenue growth across the healthcare, life sciences, and pharmaceutical markets. You'll bring medical judgment and credibility to the review, structuring, and quality of IME-related content and clinical evidence products, while also acting as a content strategist — defining how we source, structure, and scale trustworthy medical and scientific content across our portfolio.
The role combines scientific expertise, market insight, and customer-facing leadership to identify emerging healthcare trends, align Wiley assets to market needs, and design scalable content and education solutions for sponsors.
You'll work closely with key opinion leaders, project managers, product teams, and commercial sales teams to ensure our IME and science content meets the highest standards of clinical accuracy, defensibility, and usability.
Our content spans a range of health and science disciplines, including:
- Health: Dentistry, Dermatology, General & Internal Medicine, Hematology, Medical Science, Neurology, Nursing, and Oncology.
- Science: Analytical Chemistry, Biopharmaceuticals & Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, Cell & Molecular Biology, and Chemistry.
How You Will Make an Impact:
- Provide clinical leadership and oversight for IME and scientific content solutions, ensuring content is accurate, current, evidence-based, and defensible within medico-legal environments.
- Shape and drive the content strategy for our IME and science portfolio, establishing quality standards, content models, and scalable review processes that support business growth and customer needs.
- Serve as a trusted clinical expert and escalation point for complex content decisions, bringing medical judgment and credibility to high-impact initiatives.
- Partner with editorial, product, and commercial teams to develop innovative content and educational solutions that enhance customer engagement across healthcare, life sciences, and pharmaceutical markets.
- Monitor emerging clinical evidence, healthcare trends, regulatory developments, and IME best practices to ensure our content remains relevant, authoritative, and competitive.
- Represent Wiley's clinical expertise with internal stakeholders, key opinion leaders, customers, and industry partners, helping strengthen our reputation as a trusted source of scientific and medical knowledge.
- Translate complex clinical and scientific concepts into accessible, actionable content that supports learning, decision-making, and improved outcomes for healthcare professionals and researchers.

What We Look For:
Required Qualifications:
- PhD, MD, or equivalent medical degree.
- Direct experience conducting or reviewing Independent Medical Examinations (IMEs), or comparable clinical review experience.
- Strong understanding of clinical evidence, guideline development, and the evaluation of scientific literature.
- Experience in content strategy, editorial, medical affairs, medical communications, or a related healthcare field.
- Proven ability to communicate complex clinical concepts to both clinical and non-clinical audiences.
- Strong stakeholder management and collaboration skills, with experience working across matrixed organizations.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Clinical expertise in oncology, hematology, dermatology, neurology, general/internal medicine, or a related specialty.
- Familiarity with scientific disciplines such as analytical chemistry, biopharmaceuticals, pharmaceutical biotechnology, or cell and molecular biology.
- 5+ years of experience in content strategy, medical communications, or editorial leadership.
- Experience designing content operations, taxonomy frameworks, or structured content models.
- Familiarity with AI- or ML-enabled content workflows, including content extraction, quality scoring, and summarization.
- Experience within scientific, technical, and medical (STM) publishing, health information, or clinical evidence services.

We are committed to fair, transparent pay, and we strive to provide competitive compensation in addition to a comprehensive benefits package. The range below represents Wiley's good faith and reasonable estimate of the base pay for this role at the time of posting roles in the United Kingdom, Canada, USA, Austria, Czechia, Denmark, France, Greece, Italy, Netherlands, Romania, or Spain. It is anticipated that most qualified candidates will fall within the range, however the ultimate salary offered for this role may be higher or lower and will be set based on a variety of non-discriminatory factors, including but not limited to, geographic location, skills, and competencies.
