Scientific Director – Medical Communications

Remote or hybrid London

A growing independent medical communications agency is looking to appoint a Scientific Director to join its collaborative Scientific Services team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced medical communications professional to take a strategic leadership role, combining scientific expertise with client partnership and team mentorship. You'll work across a diverse portfolio of pharmaceutical clients, shaping scientific strategy, overseeing high-quality deliverables, and partnering with cross-functional teams to bring complex science to life.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead the scientific strategy across allocated client accounts and therapy areas
  • Provide expert scientific guidance and ensure the accuracy, quality, and consistency of all medical communications deliverables
  • Develop and review a wide range of promotional and scientific materials, while mentoring and supporting medical writers
  • Build trusted relationships with clients, acting as a strategic scientific partner and leading high-level scientific discussions
  • Collaborate closely with Client Services, Creative, Editorial, and Strategy teams to deliver integrated communication programmes
  • Support business development activities, including pitches, scientific input, and identifying opportunities for account growth

About you

  • Previous experience working within a medical communications agency is essential
  • Strong background in medical writing with experience leading scientific strategy
  • Degree in a life sciences discipline (higher degree or PhD advantageous)
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Able to balance strategic thinking with hands-on scientific leadership in a fast-paced agency environment
