Scientific Director – Medical Communications

Fully remote UK with occasional travel for client meetings, conferences, and events

A specialist, independent medical communications agency is entering an exciting period of growth and is looking to appoint a Scientific Director to join its senior Medical & Scientific team.

This is a senior strategic role for an experienced medical communications professional who can combine scientific expertise, client leadership, commercial thinking, and people development.

The Opportunity

As Scientific Director, you will play a key role in shaping the scientific and strategic direction of a portfolio of accounts. You will work closely with senior Client Services colleagues to develop integrated medical communications and medical affairs programmes, acting as a trusted scientific adviser to clients and external experts.

This is an opportunity to move beyond purely delivery-focused work and take genuine ownership of strategy, client relationships, new business, and team development within a growing independent agency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the scientific and strategic direction of key client accounts and programmes
  • Develop and oversee scientific communication, publication, and medical education strategies
  • Act as a senior scientific adviser to clients, providing proactive recommendations based on data, evidence, and the wider therapeutic landscape
  • Lead senior client meetings, advisory boards, symposia, and strategic planning sessions
  • Work closely with Client Services to ensure scientific strategy, account strategy, and commercial objectives are aligned
  • Provide scientific leadership across a broad range of medical affairs and communications programmes
  • Maintain oversight of scientific quality, accuracy, compliance, and strategic relevance across deliverables
  • Identify opportunities for organic account growth and contribute significantly to new business development
  • Lead or support pitches and proposals, shaping the scientific narrative and presenting to prospective clients
  • Develop project scopes, budgets, and resource requirements in partnership with Client Services and Finance
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with senior clients, KOLs, and external stakeholders
  • Mentor and develop scientific team members, supporting career progression and raising scientific standards across the agency
  • Contribute to the wider strategic direction, culture, and continued growth of the business

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
