We bring editorial excellence, a commitment to innovation, unparalleled reach and visibility, and a passion for scientific advocacy to all areas of exploration.

About the Role

Device is a young and rapidly growing journal at the forefront of technology and engineering research, publishing work that applies creative and rigorous science to real-world challenges across electronics, energy, sensing, robotics, and beyond. We are seeking a Scientific Editor to join the Device team and contribute to its continued development as a leading venue for applied science.

Working closely with and reporting to the Editor-in-Chief of Device, the new editor will:

  • Help shape the scientific direction of the journal.
  • Expand its community.

In addition to editorial responsibilities for Device, this editor will:

  • Serve as an advocate for these disciplines throughout the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake editorial evaluation of submissions to ensure scientific quality and broader significance of published work.
  • Develop a cohesive, impactful, and forward-looking journal reflecting the creative application of technology across Device’s scope.
  • Coordinate at least one special issue per year in collaboration with the editorial team.
  • Draw on and expand a network of leading researchers to attract influential submissions to Device and the wider Cell Press portfolio.
  • Identify outstanding technology and engineering manuscripts for transfer or commissioning across Cell Press journals.
  • Act as an ambassador for these fields throughout the organization.
  • Travel to relevant conferences and research institutes to:
    • Build community.
    • Identify emerging science.
    • Promote Device.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across sales, marketing, and production to support the journal’s growth targets and strategic objectives.
  • Foster productive relationships with other editorial teams across the Cell Press portfolio.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
