Your mission
Engitix Therapeutics is a pioneering biotechnology company dedicated to unlocking extracellular matrix (ECM) biology to develop transformative therapeutics for fibrosis and oncology. We are seeking a motivated Scientist to join our Discovery team and support the development and execution of our proprietary extracellular matrix tissue assay platforms.
This is an exciting opportunity for a scientist with experience in handling human tissue, histology and cell-based assays to contribute to the development of innovative drug discovery models that bridge traditional in vitro systems and human disease biology.
The Role
As a Scientist, you will play a key role in establishing complex human ECM based assays to support target ID and validation. Working closely with scientists across biology, translational research and imaging, you will prepare and process human tissue samples, perform cell-based assays, generate high-quality imaging data and contribute to assay optimisation to support target screening.
This is a hands-on laboratory role with opportunities to develop expertise in advanced tissue models, high-content imaging and extracellular matrix biology within a collaborative drug discovery environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform preparation and processing including decellularisation of human tissue samples for cell-based assays
- Prepare tissue sections using standard histology techniques, including embedding, sectioning and staining
- Execute cell-based assays using primary cells and established cell lines within ECM-based models
- Support optimisation and validation of tissue-based drug screening assays
- Perform immunofluorescence staining and prepare samples for high-content imaging and image analysis
- Generate, record and analyse experimental data, maintaining accurate laboratory records
- Assist with assay troubleshooting and implementation of process improvements
- Work closely with multidisciplinary project teams to deliver experimental data to agreed timelines
- Maintain laboratory equipment and contribute to good laboratory practice and health and safety compliance

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
