Contract Type: Permanent / Full-time

Industry: Power Transmission & Distribution / Substation Automation

We are seeking an experienced SCMS/SAS Commissioning Engineer (Specialist) to join our growing power systems team in the UK. This is a key technical role focused on the successful testing, commissioning, and handover of Substation Control & Monitoring Systems (SCMS) and Substation Automation Systems (SAS) for high-voltage and medium-voltage substations.

The Role

You will be responsible for the end-to-end commissioning of modern substation automation systems, ensuring they meet client specifications, national grid requirements, and international standards. You will work closely with project managers, design engineers, protection specialists, and clients to deliver reliable, secure, and fully functional SCMS/SAS solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, execute, and document Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), and full system commissioning of SCMS/SAS installations

  • Ensure proper system integration with higher-level SCADA / Control Centres
  • Carry out cybersecurity hardening and access control verification in line with current standards
  • Produce high-quality commissioning documentation, test reports, as-built records, and handover packages
  • Provide technical support during project execution and post-commissioning stages
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to continuous improvement of commissioning procedures
  • Travel to substation sites across the UK (and occasionally overseas) as required

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
