The SCO Writer works closely with Gas Operations Site Managers and competent persons to ensure that routine operational activities are properly documented, risks are clearly identified, and procedures reflect current legislation for gas compliance, as well as company standards and operational best practice.

The role requires strong technical writing skills combined with an understanding of gas operations, process safety, permit to work arrangements, operational risk management, and document control.

The key objective of the SCO Writer is to ensure that routine gas operations are supported by accurate, up-to-date controlled and practical documentation that enables work to be carried out safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate technical reviews and approvals with operations, engineering, HSE, maintenance, and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Maintain document control records and approval documentation in accordance with company document control requirements.
  • Support Management of Change processes by reviewing and updating SCO documentation following procedural or operational changes.
  • Ensure procedures are written in a clear, consistent, and user-friendly format suitable for operational personnel.
  • Support the identification of operational learning, incidents, near misses, audits, inspections, and safety observations into procedures.
  • Ensure critical safety information and operational controls are clearly highlighted and readily accessible to users.
  • Liaise with Competent Persons to ensure timely completion of reviews and approvals.
  • Maintain a controlled library of current SCO documentation.
  • Support audits and assurance activities by providing evidence of current, approved, and controlled operational documentation.
  • Promote continuous improvement in operational procedures, and documentation quality.
  • Ensure all documentation complies with applicable company policies, gas industry standards, regulatory requirements, and health, safety, and environmental expectations.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
