An exciting opportunity has arisen at West Middlesex University Hospital to expand our theatre workforce and recruit a Band 5 Scrub Practitioner to join our supportive and dynamic team.
Our theatre department comprises eight operating theatres and a recovery unit, including eight adult bays and three paediatric bays, providing care across a wide range of elective and emergency surgical specialties.
You will benefit from rotational experience across adult, paediatric, and obstetric theatres, enabling you to develop a broad and comprehensive skill set within Theatre department. This is supported by structured training and development opportunities.

As a Scrub Practitioner, you will deliver high-quality, patient-centred care in line with the Trust’s PROUD values (Putting patients first, Responsive, Open and Honest, Determine to develop).
- Prepare, check, and assemble surgical instrumentation and equipment in accordance with Trust policy, manufacturer guidance, and professional standards.
- Maintain aseptic technique and adhere to infection prevention and control requirements at all times.
- Ensure operating theatres are clean, safe, stocked, and prepared before, during, and after procedures.
- Participate in the WHO Surgical Safety Checklist and comply with NatSSIPs2 and related patient safety initiatives.
- Anticipate the needs of the surgical team during procedures.
- Demonstrate knowledge and competence across a range of surgical specialties.
- Ensure surgical instruments, implants, and equipment are available and appropriately managed for each case.
- Safely handle, count, and document instruments, swabs, sharps, and other surgical items in accordance with national and local policy.
- Escalate concerns promptly regarding patient safety, equipment failures, or clinical risks.
- Support the effective utilisation of theatre resources to minimise delays and improve efficiency.
- Assist in managing theatre emergencies and major incidents within own scope of competence.
- Contribute to data collection, audit, and quality improvement initiatives.
