The Opportunity
The Scrum Master role operates within the Digital Engineering team in the IS&T function, leading and enabling teams of Engineers, Engineering Managers, and Product Owners to deliver incremental value across RS websites, as well as supporting larger strategic initiatives. The role focuses on facilitating delivery, ensuring adherence to Agile principles, and driving continuous improvement, while evolving ways of working and optimising the team environment to maximise performance and deliver high-quality outcomes on time and within budget.
The Scrum Master focuses on maximising team effectiveness by removing impediments, fostering collaboration, and promoting a culture of accountability and high performance. This is a critical role in enabling the successful delivery of our ambitious digital transformation agenda.
What You Will Be Doing
The vision is to empower delivery and engineering teams to deliver increasingly more value, sooner with greater efficiency. The purpose is that by using agile principles, values and mindset, we work hard to create an environment of autonomy, mastery and purpose where teams can unlock their high performing potential to solve customers’ problems.
Main responsibilities:
- Manage Digital Delivery through Scrum methodologies
- Collaborate closely with Product Owners and Engineering Managers to find the right method of working for your team and continually improve on that
- Communicate sprint progress, risks and outcomes to key stakeholders
- Ensure co-ordination of sprints, retrospective meetings and daily stand-ups
- Coach team members in Agile principles and practices
- Facilitate internal communication in order to promote effective collaboration across teams to manage dependencies, critical paths and bottlenecks
- Act as a key point of contact for delivery-related stakeholder communication
- Ensure deliverables meet agreed quality standards
- Guide development teams to higher delivery maturity and agile adoption
- Foster a high-performing, self-organising team environment with a strong understanding of what the problem is to be solved and ownership of the solution
- Role model the company’s core values to Make Every Day Better by doing the right thing to deliver brilliantly as one team
- Define and support adherence to Definition of Ready and Done
- Focus on achieving your delivery goals
- Proactively identify, manage, and resolve impediments, escalating where necessary
- Ensure sprint goals are achieved and aligned to broader delivery objectives
- Create the metrics needed to enable improvement to the ways of working including the sprint planning estimation, the capacity of the team
- Continuously improve estimation, planning, and team capacity management practices

What You’ll Bring
- Significant experience of being a Scrum Master / Agile Team Lead
- Strong understanding of Agile methodologies
- Excellent facilitation and coaching skills
- Problem-solving and conflict resolution skills
- Experience with Jira or similar tool and using data from these tools to inform decision making, reporting and performance improvement
- Interpersonal & relationship building skills, able to work at all levels of the organisation, across functions, geographies and cultures
- Demonstrable experience of skilled and compelling delivery leadership using various techniques in the context of a team or other groups within an organisation
- Demonstrable experience leading across 1-2 engineering teams
- Knowledge and understanding of the software delivery lifecycle
