I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

The returners’ process
Our training and coaching programme is unique to us and is the gold standard for visitor attractions in Cambridge. Its purpose is to equip our staff with the skills, knowledge and confidence which will enable them to give our customers the best possible experience.
With this in mind, we induct all returners and assess their river tours for quality purposes before they start working for us again. To ensure we are providing our customers with the very best guided tour possible, you may be asked to complete some additional training and a skills test. This will be decided depending on how long you have been away from the river and your current tour score. This will also need to be completed before you can apply for shifts. Once you have completed your returners form, Marcello will be in touch about training.
