Newbury Sea Cadets is currently looking for enthusiastic volunteers to join their team as Sea Cadet Instructors.

What difference will you make?

Newbury is a long-established Sea Cadet Unit that has provided life-changing opportunities for many young people. We currently have about 30 cadets who come from all over Newbury and the surrounding areas.

By joining our Instructor team, you would play a vital role in enabling us to continue offering amazing opportunities to young people both on and off the water. You would also be part of an organisation that has a hugely positive impact on the lives of young people living in your local community.

Sea Cadets helps young people to change their lives and thrive. Without support from volunteers like you, our charity cannot provide the adventure, community and opportunities that young people experience through the Sea Cadets, creating a supportive and affordable home away from home.

What are we looking for?

We are seeking Instructors who are led by a desire to mentor, teach and inspire young people.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

While this list outlines desirable skills and experience, we encourage anyone who is passionate about our mission and believes they can contribute to apply.

We are looking for the right person to join our team, and we value potential and enthusiasm as much as specific experiences.

Desirable Skills and Experience:

  • Teaching/coaching experience
  • You are reliable, honest and trustworthy
  • You are enthusiastic and keen to learn new things
  • You are a good communicator
  • You enjoy working as part of a team
  • You will be a role model to young people

What will you be doing?

Whatever your experience and skills, they could be utilised to help young people flourish – catering, archery, meteorology, navigation, orienteering, first aid, engineering, photography, marketing, football coaching, IT, social media, finance, driving - there is no limit. Whatever your interest, you could bring it to Newbury Sea Cadets.

You could also share your skills out on the water with the next generation, through the opportunity to teach water sports such as kayaking, sailing, powerboating, canoeing, rowing and windsurfing. If you don’t have any water sport qualifications, we’ll provide you with all the equipment, training and the opportunity to gain national qualifications with the Royal Yachting Association for example. All you need is lots of enthusiasm!

Tasks of an Instructor include but are not restricted to the following:

  • Promoting and safeguarding the welfare of Children and Young People for whom they are responsible
  • Delivering instruction and training to cadets of the Sea Cadets
  • Attending Parade Nights (Mondays & Wednesdays) or being able to commit to a particular night each week or month.
