Help keep our board running smoothly as Secretary to the Board of Trustees at Endometriosis South Coast
A remote, flexible role for someone with strong organisational skills who wants to make a real difference to people living with endometriosis.
What difference will you make?
Good governance is what allows a charity to grow with confidence, and right now, ESC is growing. Having a dedicated Secretary to the Board means our trustees can focus on strategy and decision-making, knowing that the administrative and compliance foundations are in safe hands.
In practical terms, your work will mean:
- Our board meetings run efficiently and that decisions are clearly recorded and acted upon.
- Our Charity Commission obligations are met on time and without oversight gaps.
- New trustees joining our board are welcomed properly and set up to contribute meaningfully from the outset.
As a micro-charity, we do not have a large back-office function. The Secretary role fills a genuinely important gap, and the person who takes it on will be shaping what good governance looks like at ESC for years to come. That is not a small thing.
Beyond the structural impact, there is a human one. Every person who benefits from ESC's services, events, and community gets there because the organisation behind them is functioning well. By keeping our board on track, you are directly contributing to our ability to support people who are too often dismissed, misunderstood, and underserved by the healthcare system.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for someone with strong organisational and administrative skills who takes real pride in doing things properly. Attention to detail matters in this role: minutes need to be accurate, deadlines need to be met, and governance records need to be maintained to a high standard. If you are the kind of person who finds satisfaction in bringing structure and clarity to a busy team, you will thrive here.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Strong written communication is essential. You will be drafting minutes, managing formal correspondence, and contributing to our Trustees' Annual Report, so the ability to write clearly, concisely, and professionally is important.
You should be comfortable working independently and managing your own time. Much of the Secretary role happens between meetings: following up on actions, maintaining records, preparing papers, and keeping our compliance obligations on track. We need someone who is reliable and self-motivated, and who does not need to be chased.
Confidence with digital tools is also important. We work remotely and use video conferencing, shared documents, and email as our primary tools, so ease with technology is a practical necessity rather than a bonus.
In terms of experience, previous work as a company or charity secretary, or in a governance or administrative leadership role, would be a significant advantage. An understanding of charity law and the Charity Commission's expectations would help you hit the ground running, though we will provide full induction and support. Experience in the voluntary or not-for-profit sector more broadly is also welcome.
Above all, we are looking for someone who is genuinely committed to ESC's mission. Endometriosis and adenomyosis affect an enormous number of people, yet both conditions remain widely misunderstood and under-resourced. We are a small charity working to change that, and we want a Secretary who cares about that work, not just the administrative function that supports it.
Lived experience of endometriosis or adenomyosis is warmly welcomed, though it is not a requirement. We are also particularly keen to hear from people from minoritised communities and gender-diverse individuals, in line with our commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.

What will you be doing?
At Endometriosis South Coast, our board is small, committed, and working hard to grow the reach and sustainability of our charity. We are at a genuinely exciting point in our development: expanding our volunteer team, strengthening our governance foundations, and building the systems that will allow us to support more people across the South Coast living with endometriosis and adenomyosis.
Our board operates with a close, collaborative relationship with our Founder, and we take pride in being a values-led organisation where every trustee's contribution is felt. We are a micro-charity with a big mission, and that means the work our board does really matters.
The Secretary to the Board plays a central role in making that work possible. You will be responsible for:
- Coordinating and managing all board meetings, including preparing and circulating agenda papers, recording accurate minutes, and following up on actions between meetings.
- Ensuring ESC meets its statutory and reporting obligations to the Charity Commission, maintaining our governing documents, statutory registers, and trustee records.
- Acting as a point of contact for formal board correspondence and supporting the preparation of our Trustees' Annual Report.
- Playing a role in the induction of new trustees, making sure they have the documentation and context they need to contribute from day one.
This is a role with genuine responsibility and real visibility within the organisation. If you are someone who finds satisfaction in bringing order and clarity to a team doing important work, this is a role where you will feel that every hour counts.
