We are seeking a motivated and ambitious Section Engineer to join our team supporting the delivery of a major National Grid infrastructure programme. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the successful delivery of substation civil engineering works, contributing to projects that are critical to the UK's energy network.
As a Section Engineer, you will be responsible for coordinating and managing engineering activities across designated sections of work, ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards. Working closely with project managers, site teams, subcontractors, and stakeholders, you will support the delivery of complex civil engineering works while driving engineering excellence on site.

Role Responsibilities
- Manage and coordinate engineering activities for designated sections of substation civil engineering works.
- Ensure works are conducted in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, and project requirements.
- Oversee site investigations, surveying, setting out, and engineering control activities.
- Provide technical support and guidance to construction teams and subcontractors.
- Identify and resolve engineering and construction issues to support programme delivery.
- Ensure accurate records and technical documentation are maintained throughout the project lifecycle.
- Promote and maintain exacting standards of quality across all site activities.
- Ensure works comply with project specifications, inspection requirements, and company quality procedures.
- Support the implementation of inspection and assess plans and quality assurance processes.
- Monitor and verify completed works to ensure compliance with design and client requirements.
- Coordinate subcontractors and site teams to ensure efficient delivery of works.
- Monitor progress against programme milestones and support effective planning of activities.
- Work collaboratively with project, commercial, and construction teams to achieve project objectives.
- Assist with resource planning and site coordination to support safe and effective project delivery.
- Champion a positive health, safety, and environmental culture across the project.
- Ensure engineering activities are conducted in compliance with project procedures and statutory requirements.
- Support risk identification and implementation of appropriate control measures.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and best practice throughout project delivery.

Qualifications
Skills, Experience and Qualifications
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Working towards a relevant professional qualification or chartered status is desirable.
Experience
- Experience within civil engineering, infrastructure, utilities, energy, or substation construction projects.
- Experience managing engineering activities on site and coordinating multiple work fronts.
- Experience undertaking or supervising site investigations, surveying, and setting out activities.
- Experience managing subcontractors and supporting project delivery teams.
- Experience maintaining quality standards and ensuring compliance with engineering specifications and project requirements.
Technical Knowledge
- Strong understanding of civil engineering principles and construction methodologies.
- Knowledge of substation construction projects and associated civil engineering works.
- Proficient in surveying, setting out, and site engineering techniques.
- Understanding of quality assurance processes, inspection procedures, and technical documentation.
- Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental requirements within construction and infrastructure environments.

Desirable
- Experience working on National Grid or other utility infrastructure projects.
- Experience supporting the delivery of substation or power infrastructure schemes.
- Familiarity with quality management systems and engineering governance processes.
- Experience working within multidisciplinary project teams on large-scale infrastructure programmes.

About The Energy Business Unit
We have extensive experience in upgrading and replacing energy networks, delivering asset management for major UK energy companies and network operators.
Our transmission and distribution services involve the upgrading and replacement of electricity assets both above and below ground. Within the electricity sector we install and maintain assets, including excavation, laying, and jointing of cables, (fluid filled and XLPe), substations and overhead line, new build, repair, and refurbishment services.
