Scotland's Railway is part of this large family and it covers a large geographical area from the Borders to Thurso at the far tip of the North East of Scotland, accounting for almost 20 per cent of the UK rail network. We provide rapid access along busy commuter routes to our seven cities, servicing the varied needs of our business and leisure commuter services, including cross border services and rural services. We have up to 50 freight services operating every day and we are steadily building capacity for this to grow. About The Role
This is a Full-Time / Permanent position.
The Section Supervisor assists the Section Manager in the inspection, maintenance and renewal of assets to standards and within agreed resource levels, budget and unit cost measures. They supervise the delivery of work and undertake specific inspections as required. They also assist in the management of staff as directed.
More About Overhead Line Equipment... You'll be Supervising a team who work with high voltage systems, ensuring our railway has the power to run the trains. The Overhead Line team work regularly at height, using various types of specialist tools and equipment to measure, adjust, repair and modify the cables and wires that keep Britain's railway running. This is a safety critical role where you'll be required to work shifts including nights and weekends. Some 'On Call' working may also be required.
You will be responsible for supervising and assuring the quality of work delivered, ensuring all assets and activities comply with relevant standards, company policies, and safe systems of work. This includes carrying out inspections, prioritising work, preparing method statements and Safe System of Work Plans, and supporting the development of work plans that enable delivery to be safe, efficient, and compliant. You will also contribute to asset management by assisting with asset condition assessments, identifying renewal requirements, and ensuring work is delivered in line with maintenance plans.

In addition, you will support effective team and resource management by assisting with resource allocation, staff supervision, and monitoring work quality, compliance, and asset condition. You will help maintain accurate systems, records, and databases, contribute to staff competence, welfare, and disciplinary processes where required, and carry out staff surveillance activities as directed. Ongoing personal development and supporting the development of others forms a key part of the role.
Key Accountabilities
- Supervise and check the quality of work delivered and confirm assets are compliant to standards.
- Carry out work safely and in accordance with the safe systems of work procedures, method statements and other instructions.
- Adhere to company policies and procedures.
- Undertake specific inspections in accordance with standards as directed.
- Prioritise work arising.
- Prepare work and resource specifications and method statements including Safe System of Work Plans.
- Assist in the development of work plans that enables work to be delivered safely, efficiently and compliant to standards.
- Assist in the identification and proposal of asset renewals.
- Assist in the allocation of resources.
- Deliver work in accordance with the relevant maintenance plans.
- Provide appropriate information to update systems, databases and records.
- Undertake a programme of staff surveillance, work quality, compliance and asset condition checks as directed.
- Assist in the management, control and discipline of staff as directed.
- Assist in the monitoring and review of staff competence and welfare.
- Contribute to your own development and that of others.
This role will involve shift work including night and weekend working. You may also be required to work on-call.

Salary: £49,262 + roster premium

Your Experience And Skills
Experience, skills, knowledge and competencies
- Experience of directing and supervising worksites and the safe and efficient delivery of work.
- Knowledge of resource and work organisation/planning processes and systems.
- Knowledge and experience of signalling inspection, maintenance, renewal and asset condition assessment techniques.
- Knowledge of relevant standards, procedures and instructions.
- Awareness of cost and waste control techniques.
- Able to demonstrate, promote and embed safe working behaviours within the team.
- Able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Able to coach, influence and develop others.
- Hold and retain competencies relevant to this post and required by business need.
- Ideally hold (or be working towards) an NVQ level 2 or 3 (or equivalent) in a relevant subject or have attained the appropriate level of knowledge gained through equivalent relevant experience.
