Salary: Starting from IMC4 £52601 (dependent on experience) + Location Allowance
Hours: Full-Time
Shift Pattern: Days, Nights & Weekends (Safety-Critical Role)
About The Role

At Network Rail, we're looking for a motivated Section Supervisor - Track to join our team at Orpington DU. In this role, you'll play a key part in delivering safe and efficient track maintenance and renewal works across the station and surrounding infrastructure. This is a fantastic opportunity to develop your leadership, planning, and management skills - setting you up for future roles such as Section Manager.
What You'll Do
- Lead Teams: Take charge of weekend works and abnormal operations, overseeing or assisting teams to ensure projects are completed safely and efficiently. Run regular staff meetings to engage your team on upcoming projects, overtime requests, and training needs.
- Plan Effectively: Work with multiple disciplines, including Track, Welding, and ETM, to plan and deliver work safely. Coordinate essential machinery such as General Purpose Cranes and Road Rail Vehicles, ensuring reactive and planned works have the right resources and competencies.
- Gain Management Experience: Create rosters for planned works, manage staff fatigue, and assess team competencies. This hands-on experience will deepen your understanding of workforce management and help you identify team strengths and development needs.
- Supervise and check the quality of work delivered, ensuring compliance with standards.
- Carry out work safely in accordance with safe systems of work, method statements, and instructions.
- Undertake inspections and prioritise arising work.
- Prepare work and resource specifications, method statements, and Safe System of Work Plans.
- Assist in developing work plans for safe, efficient, and compliant delivery.
- Support identification and proposal of asset renewals.
- Allocate resources and deliver work in line with maintenance plans.
- Provide accurate information to update systems, databases, and records.
- Undertake staff surveillance, work quality checks, and compliance reviews.
- Assist with staff management, competence monitoring, and welfare.
- Contribute to your own development and support the development of others.

Your Experience And Skills
What you'll need:
- Experience supervising worksites and ensuring safe, efficient delivery.
- Knowledge of resource planning and work organisation processes.
- Understanding of track inspection, maintenance, renewal, and asset condition assessment techniques.
- Familiarity with relevant standards, procedures, and instructions.
- Awareness of cost and waste control techniques.
- Ability to promote and embed safe working behaviours.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to coach, influence, and develop others.
- Hold or be working towards NVQ Level 2 or 3 (or equivalent) in a relevant subject, or equivalent experience.
- Full driving licence and willingness to drive as required.
Important Information
This is a safety-critical role, requiring you to pass a medical assessment and undergo drug and alcohol testing. Flexibility is essential as the role involves working days, nights, and weekends.
