Security Analyst - Up to £450 per day
3 months contract (Inside IR35)
2 Days Per Week Onsite (Office located near Holborn Underground Station)
Overview
We are seeking an enthusiastic and proactive Security Analyst to join a busy internal IT and Security function on an initial 3-month contract. This role is ideal for someone with strong email security experience who enjoys working directly with users, investigating threats, and helping to maintain a secure working environment.
The successful candidate will play a key role in protecting the business from email-based threats, managing security incidents, and supporting end users with security-related queries. You'll be heavily involved in phishing investigations, email validation, message release requests, and security alert triage using industry-leading tools including Mimecast, Microsoft Defender, and Freshservice.
This is a highly visible role requiring strong communication skills, attention to detail, and a customer-focused approach. The ideal candidate will be comfortable engaging with stakeholders across the business and helping users understand security risks in a clear and professional manner.
Key Responsibilities
- Investigate, analyse, and respond to suspected phishing and malicious emails.
- Review reported emails and determine whether communications are legitimate or represent a security threat.
- Manage email quarantine and release requests through Mimecast.
- Monitor and respond to security alerts generated within Microsoft Defender.
- Triage and manage security incidents and requests through Freshservice.
- Escalate confirmed threats and incidents following established security procedures.
- Identify trends in phishing attacks, spam campaigns, and social engineering attempts.
- Block malicious senders, domains, and email threats where appropriate.
- Support end users with security-related concerns and provide guidance on best practice.
- Maintain accurate records of investigations, actions taken, and incident outcomes.
- Work closely with IT and Security teams to continuously improve email security processes.
- Assist with security reporting and provide updates on threat activity and incident trends.

Required Skills & Experience
- Previous experience working as a Security Analyst, SOC Analyst, Information Security Analyst, or similar.
- Hands-on experience with Mimecast, including quarantine management and email release processes.
- Experience using Microsoft Defender and associated security tooling.
- Experience working with Freshservice or a similar ITSM/ticket management platform.
- Strong understanding of phishing attacks, email security threats, and social engineering techniques.
- Ability to investigate and assess security risks quickly and accurately.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- High attention to detail and a methodical approach to investigations.
- Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively within a part-time contract.

Desirable Experience
- Experience within a legal, corporate, financial services, or professional services environment.
- Knowledge of Microsoft 365 security and administration.
- Understanding of incident response procedures and security operations.
- Familiarity with email authentication technologies such as SPF, DKIM, and DMARC.
- Exposure to endpoint security and threat detection platforms.
