Security Architect – Remote – Secure by Design, Defence

Location: Remote-first (South Coast, UK), with travel to customer sites and occasional head office visits

Job type: Permanent, Full-time

Salary: £75,000 – £85,000 + benefits

An established UK cyber security specialist is hiring a Security Architect to lead Secure by Design work across defence programmes. The business builds technology that lets sensitive data move safely between networks with different security levels, for defence, government and CNI customers. If you understand why Secure by Design works, not just how to apply a control set, this is worth a look.

About the role

You'll start on one core project: a prime-led defence programme moving from research into operational capability. From there, your work will extend across the wider services team and other customer engagements.

You'll join an established delivery team with a programme lead already in place, working alongside other Secure by Design and Solution Architects. Day to day, you'll work with defence primes, assurance authorities and customer security stakeholders.

This isn't a compliance-checking role. Building security into defence systems as they move from MVP to production is complex, and the team needs someone who can shape the approach rather than simply translate requirements into controls.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
