Joining Arup

Arup’s purpose, shared values and collaborative approach has set us apart for over 80 years, guiding how we shape a better world.

The Opportunity

An opportunity has arisen for a Security Consultant to join our Security Advisory stream within the Resilience, Security & Risk practice in the UKIMEA region. You will work with clients and multidisciplinary teams across transport, infrastructure, property and government to identify, assess and manage security risks. Typical activities will include delivering Threat, Vulnerability and Risk Assessments and Security Needs Assessments, defining security requirements, developing holistic security strategies, supporting stakeholder engagement and project delivery, and contributing to new business opportunities and the development of our Security Advisory capabilities.

Is this role right for you?

We are looking for someone with strong technical expertise in security advisory services, supported by relevant qualifications in security risk management, political science, terrorism studies, engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience. You will combine technical excellence with commercial awareness, communicate complex concepts clearly and deliver high-quality outcomes while managing programme, budget and client expectations.

We'd like to hear from you if:

  • You have experience in consultancy, professional services or a comparable client-facing environment, advising on security matters and applying threat, vulnerability and risk assessment methodologies to develop proportionate, practical and sustainable mitigation measures.
  • You have an ability to deliver projects independently, manage priorities, engage directly with clients and explain technical concepts clearly to specialist and non-specialist audiences, while seeking support when appropriate.
  • You have understanding of physical, electronic and personnel security measures would be advantageous.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
