Role Profile
This role would suit a graduate, an early-career security professional, or someone in another IT discipline who is looking to move into cyber security. With guidance from the wider team, the successful candidate will help onboard new log sources, improve data quality, assist with developing detection use cases, and contribute to the SOC’s monitoring and response capabilities.
This role is ideal for someone with a good foundation in IT, a strong interest in cyber security, and a willingness to learn. Previous SOC or SIEM experience would be helpful but is not essential.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

The Security Engineer will also support service improvements and take part in incident, change, and problem management processes. With guidance from senior colleagues, they will contribute to the implementation and review of security controls that protect Walkers’ IT environment.
Experience in a legal, financial services, professional services, or other regulated environment would be helpful, but is not essential.
