About The Role
The Principal Security Engineer within the Appstar organization is a senior-level role responsible for leading application security initiatives across complex systems. This position involves conducting comprehensive security reviews, identifying critical vulnerabilities, and providing strategic guidance to mitigate risks effectively. The successful candidate will mentor security engineers, influence architectural decisions, and establish enterprise-wide security review methodologies. They will be instrumental in designing security standards and patterns that facilitate secure development practices across all engineering teams. This role requires a combination of deep technical expertise, strategic thinking, and strong stakeholder engagement skills, as it involves collaborating with senior leadership to shape the organization's security posture. The Principal Security Engineer will also drive automation and leverage AI-powered solutions to enhance security processes at scale, ensuring that security measures evolve in tandem with the rapid pace of technological development and business growth.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred
- Extensive experience in security engineering, particularly in application security or related domains
- Proficiency in Threat Modelling, Code Review, and Security Testing methodologies
- Proven track record of implementing security solutions at scale in complex environments
- Experience leading cross-functional security initiatives and influencing senior technical stakeholders
- Strong understanding of secure development practices and security architecture principles
- Experience with AI/ML systems and their security implications is a plus
- Experience in developing and deploying automated security tools and solutions
- Excellent communication and mentorship skills
Responsibilities
- Establish and maintain comprehensive application security review methodologies applicable across diverse application types and risk profiles
- Make critical security architecture decisions for high-stakes applications, evaluating high-risk design choices and setting security standards for new technologies
- Conduct security reviews of complex applications, proactively identifying vulnerabilities and providing actionable risk mitigation guidance
- Mentor and lead security engineers and architects, fostering a culture of security excellence and continuous improvement
- Lead security architecture working groups and develop security review playbooks, risk assessment frameworks, and architectural standards
- Drive automation of security processes, including vulnerability detection and threat management, leveraging AI and machine learning technologies
- Collaborate with senior leadership to influence product roadmaps and security strategies aligned with organizational goals
- Serve as a risk management SME, making final determinations on high-risk issues and establishing risk acceptance processes at executive levels
