Security Engineer (Network & Cyber Security)
Location: Redhill, Surrey
Working pattern: Onsite for the first 6 months, then up to 6 remote working days per month
Sector: Satellite Communications | Maritime | Defence & Government Technology
The Opportunity
We’re recruiting a Security Engineer to join an established technology business operating across satellite communications, maritime connectivity, defence and government environments.
This is a genuinely hands-on security role. You’ll work across internal and customer networks, helping to design, implement and maintain secure infrastructure while investigating incidents, managing vulnerabilities and improving the organisation’s overall security posture.
The environment is particularly interesting if you enjoy the crossover between cybersecurity, networking and real-world communications infrastructure rather than purely corporate IT security.
You’ll work with networks and systems supporting customers operating at sea, on land and in the air, including highly secure government and defence environments.
What You’ll Be Doing
You’ll act as a technical specialist for network and device security, taking ownership of security issues from identification through to resolution.
Responsibilities
- Designing, implementing and maintaining secure network solutions.
- Working hands-on with firewalls, routers, switches and other network security infrastructure.
- Implementing and supporting SIEM and IDS/IPS solutions.
- Monitoring security tools and third-party information to identify threats, vulnerabilities and security events.
- Investigating security incidents and supporting their resolution.
- Performing vulnerability assessments and supporting penetration-testing activities.
- Reviewing CVEs and recommending appropriate remediation.
- Supporting the through-life security of internal and customer networks and systems.
- Testing existing environments for vulnerabilities and recommending improvements.
- Providing third-line support for complex network security issues.
- Advising IT and engineering teams on cybersecurity when designing or changing networks.
- Developing and maintaining security policies, procedures, standards and technical guidelines.
- Producing configuration documentation, schematics and technical support guides.
- Supporting incident management activities.
- Helping colleagues understand and respond appropriately to security threats.
- Sharing knowledge and developing security awareness across technical teams.

What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for someone with approximately 5+ years of hands-on network/security experience who is comfortable taking technical ownership rather than simply escalating problems elsewhere.
You should have practical experience with several of the following:
- Cisco firewalls, routers and switches
- Juniper platforms
- SIEM tools
- IDS/IPS technologies
- Vulnerability management
- Penetration-testing tools and techniques
- Network security design and implementation
- Security incident investigation
- Computer forensic tools
- ISO 27001
- GDPR
- Security policies, procedures and technical documentation
You’ll need to be able to explain security issues clearly to both technical colleagues and management and be comfortable dealing directly with customers when required.
We’re particularly interested in people who can combine strong networking fundamentals with practical cybersecurity knowledge.

Nice to Have
Experience within any of the following would be particularly useful:
- Satellite communications / SatCom
- Telecommunications
- Maritime communications
- UK MOD or government networks
- Defence technology
- Secure or mission-critical communications environments
Previous SatCom experience is not essential if your networking and security background is strong.
Security & Eligibility Requirements
Because of the nature of the customers and environments supported by the business, there are some important eligibility requirements.
You must:
- Be a national of a NATO member country.
- Have been resident in the UK for the most recent 5 years.
- Hold, or be able to obtain, UK Security Check (SC) clearance.
These requirements are linked to the defence and government environments the successful person will support.
Working Pattern
The role is based in Redhill, Surrey.
For the first 6 months, you’ll be expected to work onsite full-time while learning the systems, products, customers and technical environment. After completing this initial period, the working arrangement becomes more flexible, with up to 6 remote working days per month.
The Person
You’ll probably enjoy this role if you’re someone who likes getting into the technical detail, solving difficult problems and taking responsibility for seeing an issue through.
You’ll need to be organised, proactive and comfortable working in an environment where priorities can change quickly. Attention to detail matters, particularly when working with secure networks and customers.
