Security Engineering Manager
London (Hybrid)
The Client
A drug discovery company that's putting AI at the centre of how new medicines get found. They came out of some of the most celebrated work in the field, they've got serious backing behind them, and the ambition is about as big as it gets. The goal is to use AI to take on disease itself. Research runs at real speed here, and security is expected to keep that speed up rather than get in its way.
The Role
- Take charge of a security engineering team by hiring into it, growing it, and setting the bar for how the work gets done
- Shape the security roadmap for the long haul, pulling identity, cloud, network, secure development, and monitoring together under one plan
- Steer the kind of projects that haven't really been done before, the security groundwork under cutting-edge models and new treatments
- Keep the cloud and the platform secure, leaning on AI and agentic tooling so that posture management largely runs itself
- Keep the roadmap measurable and moving alongside the programme and engineering leads, and keep leadership across it
- Sit close to the researchers and medical teams, clearing what's in their way while keeping their compute properly protected
- Be the technical bridge out to the wider partner ecosystem and the vendors that carry weight
- Take the hard calls when incidents get messy or when a risk is baked into the architecture and needs pulling apart

About You
- You've led security engineering teams before, whether you built them, scaled them, or turned them around, inside places that move quickly
- You know how to design and defend security across tangled cloud setups shared by many tenants, and you've done it from start to finish
- You've spent real time around the security and regulatory side of AI, ML, or life sciences
- You can zoom from broad risk planning down to hands-on delivery, and settle the tricky technical trade-offs along the way
- Automation is your instinct, and you like the idea of AI and agentic workflows doing the heavy lifting
- Your cloud engineering is strong, covering cloud platforms (GCP a plus), containers on Kubernetes or Docker, and getting Zero Trust actually stood up
- You weigh security decisions commercially and scientifically, trading off in a way that keeps the business quick on its feet without exposing what matters
- You can talk to a boardroom and a research team in the same afternoon, and make deep technical risk land clearly with both

Desirables
- Hands-on or architectural experience securing ML training pipelines, guarding model weights, or putting guardrails around autonomous systems
- Comfort with frameworks like ISO 27001 or ISO 42001, or the validation and privacy standards you see in health tech and pharma (GxP, FDA, EU AI Act)
- Coding in Python or Go, plus CI/CD security tooling, Terraform, and cloud native controls
- A recognised cloud or technical credential such as CISSP, CISM, or OSCP
