Security at a Nuclear Site
Security at a nuclear site is a little different from your typical security role.
At Oldbury, you'll join a close-knit security team responsible for protecting people, facilities, and site operations as the station continues its journey through nuclear decommissioning. Working 12-hour day and night shifts across a five-week rota, averaging 37 hours per week, you'll be trusted to make decisions, support visitors, respond to incidents, and help keep a nationally important site operating safely and securely every day.
Working within a highly regulated environment, you'll play a key role in maintaining site security while providing a professional and welcoming experience for employees, contractors, and visitors. It's a position that offers genuine responsibility, variety, and the opportunity to build valuable experience within the nuclear industry.
What Will You Be Doing?
No two days are quite the same at Oldbury. One shift you could be:
- Welcoming visitors
- Issuing passes
- Helping contractors navigate the site
The next, you could be:
- Responding to alarms
- Monitoring security systems
- Carrying out patrols across station facilities
Throughout it all, you'll help create a safe, secure, and professional environment for everyone who works on, or visits, the site.
You'll also be a visible representative of Oldbury. Whether you're supporting emergency responders, assisting visitors, or responding to unexpected situations, you'll be relied upon to remain calm, professional, and approachable while maintaining security standards at all times.

Who Are We Looking For?
We're looking for someone who:
- Takes pride in doing things properly
- Communicates confidently with people from all backgrounds
- Can remain composed when situations become challenging
You'll hold an NQF Level 1 qualification or equivalent relevant experience and be comfortable using IT systems as part of your day-to-day role.
Previous security experience would be beneficial, but it isn't essential. We're equally interested in people who can demonstrate professionalism, sound judgment, strong customer service skills, and a willingness to learn. Full training will be provided to help you become a Suitable Qualified Experienced Person (SQEP), so attitude and potential are just as important as previous experience.
